It has been announced that Michael Giacchino is to score JURASSIC WORLD, the fourth film in the dino-franchise.

Giacchino made stop-motion dinosaur movies when he was nine years old, and his first professional composing gig was scoring the Playstation 2 videogame of THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK. Giacchino says that scoring the new film "is an incredible opportunity to bring full circle the journey of dinosaurs and film that started in my backyard over 30 years ago".

Fantastic news. I'm always happy to hear of more Giacchino scoring assignments, but it is really neat that it has gone full circle from him scoring the Jurassic Park: Lost World video game to an actual Jurassic Park film.

Cool news! Although because of JURASSIC PARK III, I have no interest in JURASSIC WORLD. On the other hand it would be easy to improve on JURASSIC PARK III.

I'll buy the CD & hope that the movie is better than Jurassic Park III.

Both Jurassic Park sequels were big turkeys.

(There's a dinosaur joke in there somewhere, but I'm too tired right now)

Both had fantastic scores, though.

Six-foot turkeys. You stare at them, and they just stare right back. And that's when the attack comes. Not from the front, but from the side, from the other sequel you didn't even know was coming. I don't know where I'm going with this, but the point is, you are alive when they start to eat your brain. So you know, try to show a little respect.

I'm not the biggest Giacchino fan, but I'm well aware that he can do good pastiche, so let's hope he's the right choice for this. For all the temptation to go completely original, here's hoping he refers to Williams in some form or fashion (either theme or style).

I'm a bit skeptical, but open-minded.

I'm looking forward to hearing his second take on the world of Jurassic Park. I imagine it will be massively different particularly as he has largely lost that lovely early sound and energy.

It kind of amuses me that I used to consider the new John Williams is working/has worked on franchises that really put the name John Williams in the public mind. What with MG doing the Star Tours music and likely the replacement should Williams stand down from the new Star Wars films, plus now Jurassic Park.

This news doesn't make me any more interested in this film.

It's time they passed the baton too another composer. Should have done the same for Star Wars.

Nor me. I get the impression it will be nothing more than a regurgitation of the first one.

Hello and welcome to Wonderful World of Film Franchises! Maybe you haven't seen any movies in the various Tarzan, Sherlock, James Bond, Halloween or Friday the 13th series, but that's pretty much what happens in most film franchises. Did you expect JURASSIC WORLD to instead be more akin to MY DINNER WITH ANDRE? Or to instead be a political thriller? The point of movies in this specific series is man vs. dinosaurs, end of story, so I'm not sure why you would expect something else, you're either onboard for that or see what else is playing onscreen.

I think this is great news - looking forward to Giacchino's whole slate over the next few years. Looks to be a lot of really good potential scores coming our way.

Indeed. Lazy Hollywood fare. It's all about the merchandising. I'll choose something else, thanks.

Great news! Nice to see him back in the "Jurassic World", I enjoyed his videogame score a lot and I'm happy it got a release. I doubt his new score will have much in common with his previous entry, and I have no doubt he'll make use of William's themes. I didn't liked JPIII much (both movie and score) but right now I've a good feeling that I'll like this new one a lot more again, at least the score. Looking forward to it.

(Btw, The Lost World wasn't really Giacchino's first professional gig, or was it? He co-composed the music for that Donald Duck Videogame "Maui Mallard" of the SNES/Genesis-era and he probably did that before the Jurassic Park-game, didn't he? I'm fairly certain the Playstation2 came out later. Anyway I enjoyed the music for that game a lot, too. At least for the SNES. I never played it's Genesis/Mega Drive-counterpart. wink )

As a fan of Giacchino, the Jurassic Park scores, AND composers playing with others' themes, this is all welcome news.

He probably meant it was his first professional job as a solo composer, or first job composing for an orchestra. Or he just wants to forget Maui Mallard, for some reason!

The Playstation 2 bit is my mistake, you're right it was the Playstation. God, I feel old.
