What a hideous cover!

Looks to me, from the picture, that the packaging is a book with each CD in an envelope on either side. So, the packaging is a lot more hideous than the cover.

The last two pages of the book are sleeves for the CDs.

I like the cover, personally. I wouldn't have wanted the OST cover again, and a lot of Disney animated cover art is not my cup of tea (key art with a solid background, the title slapped across the top).

....one thing I have learned, Zimmer's Album suites are a lot better than what is actually written for the films. .

That is why I am excited by this release but would never part with the ost!!!!!
bruce

On first listen I would say that the suite which concludes the original release is a better listen than the final track of TLC "The Rightful King".
This new version clocks in at 10 plus minutes and meanders a bit as it follows the on-screen action

I really dislike the "Stampede" and "Rightful King" cues on the expanded edition. I replaced those with the OST cues, "...To Die For" and "King of Pride Rock". The rest is fabulous and I generally love this release.

"Stampede", and the whole score, sounds much better on this release (as Mr. Southall so accurately points out in his fine review). Do an "a' & "b" comparison to hear it.

You have to see the COMPLETE artwork to appreciate it.
Very nice indeed!

Yes, I do hear a big difference in sound quality. Sadly I have to live with it. I wish they included the OST cues remastered with this release. I really find demo's which are nothing more than sound sketches a waste of space.

Yeah I hated the cover at first. But the overall design is consistent and quite nice. The artist is an impressionist, which I got after reviewing the whole package. The cover art for the next two releases are better too.

I hope this okay, but since there's been so much interest in the title.

Full disclosure, I run Stitch Kingdom which was linked to in this thread. Anyway, Disney Music gave us this new video which features Hans Zimmer and The Lion King's filmmakers discussing the process of composing the music for the film.

Thanks so much for sharing this video. So one of the themes was written thinking about Zimmers father, didn't know that.

Will there be videos for other future legacy collection scores? I'm mainly interested in the Menken ones.

I'm sure there will be, especially when it gets closer to the release date.

I'm excited that some of these titles are approaching (especially TOY STORY, which I hope is expanded... although TOY STORY 2 is one I'd really go insane for).

Nevertheless, at some point, I hope they get around to TRON LEGACY - THE LEGACY COLLECTION... both because I'd love to but it but also because of the name.

The pre-order price for "The Little Mermaid" has come way down. ($14.88)
A bargain for the complete score!

How are the Legacy Collections packaged? Do the discs sit in trays with hubs of any kind, or are they in sleeves or another style that risks damage?

For the Lion King they slip into cardboard sleeves. I know a lot of ppl worry about scratches, but I never had a problem with them, (CD's are very hardy) and wouldn't turn down a great score because of the packaging. But that's just me. wink

This series hasn't gotten to the titles I'm interested in, though I am curious about some things.

Aren't Bruce Botnick and Neil Bulk involved with the transfer, assembly and mastering of these projects? If so, are they involved in all of them? If not, who are handling the basic production chores in the other cases?

There's been a lot of chatter as to content. I want production facts and quality assessments.

The hard cardboard sleeves 9at least on the Lion King one) are the same kind you often see in large box sets. There's no issue with these I've ever had. It's be more concerned about ruining the lovely book than the CDs in this case.

Listening too Little Mermaid now. The crispness and stereo separation sounds great. Individual instruments are clearly heard. I Like the flow of the additional music as well. (what I heard so far)

Now my one nitpick thus far. I really dislike the mix for "Fireworks". Its like they reversed the prominent instruments in that cue. What was once in the forefront is almost not heard at all. It's either a really bad remix, or there's something wrong with that cue.

Thus far I am up to "Flotsam and Jetsam" and "Fireworks" is the only track that really sticks out in a negative way.

Well, Fireworks on the Legacy set is actually missing the chorus from the OST.
