This is one comment I couldn't let pass "(notice I’m NOT talking about Nicholas Meyer’s “Volunteers,” still one of the all-time unfunniest comedies to come out of that decade)." Correction: "Goldsmith’s score swells like the sea itself, offering a beautiful pallet of themes...." I think you meant palette, the board on which an artist mixes colors, verses "pallet" - which is either a straw mattress or a wood framework for cargo. But I make the point more to note that "palette of themes" doesn't really work as a metaphor for music. "Palette" denotes the raw materials the artist uses, a "palette" of colors, of paints, etc. The comparison in music would I think be better suited to notes, or chords, or harmonies, or even rhythms - but not themes, which would be better compared to sketches, pictures, etc. I know, I know. Once an English major, always an English major....
