I know most of it got tossed from the film but the CD features some really gorgeous music from JNH, at times in a huge, religious-sounding kind of way.
I hated the film when I saw it at the cinema. Mainly because the CGI vampires were lame and took me out of the film whenever they Gollumed up.
I also really like the old Charlton Heston version so in comparison to that, the upgraded version was below par for me. Pob ain't no Chuck Heston wink
But the music on CD is very fine indeed, at times on a par with his outstanding work on the Shyamalan scores he's done in the past (The Happening aside, which is a score and film I just don't like at all).
Any other fans out there for I Am Legend?

I had no recollection of the score after seeing this in the theater. Just a miserable disappointment over how thoroughly the badly-realized CGI vampires had managed to deplete the film of any suspense or atmosphere. So I was surprised to hear folks raving about the music. That certainly makes sense though if some of the best cues were dropped from the film. I'll have to check out the Varèse release.

BTW. The Last Man on Earth (1964) with Vincent Price is actually a pretty good film and I'd say the truest adaptation of the novel to date.

"I had no recollection of the score after seeing this in the theatre"
--------------------------
As far as I can recall, the film just repeats the main theme on piano over and over and has a few suspense beats goin on during other times.
I was amazed when I first heard the full CD from Varese at the quality of the unused music.
Admittedly it does get a bit repetitive over the course of the CD, but it's music of a very high standard nonetheless.
In hindsight, it was probably far too good for the turd of a film it was written for.

I actually enjoyed this film and found it quite good -- far more so than the original, which is too dated for me (I saw it for the first time just a few years ago). Can't remember much of the score, though.
