I don't know how many people here are running Windows 8 but considering the typical setting is to have updates install automatically I thought I would warn you if you haven't yet upgraded to Windows 8.1 to be careful. My husband's computer recently upgraded to 8.1 without much warning and the failure to complete properly almost left him with a useless computer. If the same thing happened to anyone who doesn't know how to use a command prompt (most users) then he would have been completely screwed.
If you are preparing to do an upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 please make sure you have your major files backed up in a safe place so that you are ready and willing to install Windows from scratch if it fails. I always prefer to tell Windows to download updates but let me choose when to install them and it seems that this is the better option for going forward. I'll be sticking to Windows 7 myself.

I have Windows 8 and have repeatedly refused upgrade (free) to 8.1. By what read Microsoft will no longer provide updates to 8.1. ??? This has been the biggest mess Microsoft has ever caused. Have had no problems with Windows 8 at all so far, wish someone could explain why must I upgrade and not leave the program be, works for me. Still am utterly confused and not knowing what to do about it or if anything has to be done at all.
