TUESDAY, APRIL 22
U-2---the SAVING PRIVATE RYAN duo of Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg may reunite in this untitled movie about lawyer James Donovan who negotiated the release of Francis Gary Powers from the USSR when his U-2 spy plane was shot down in 1960. Hanks has signed to star, and Spielberg has expressed an interest in directing.
THE EQUALIZER---photo released of Denzel Washington and Chloe Moretz in the movie based on the CBS series that starred Edward Woodward. Washington plays a retired special ops agent who comes to the rescue of a young prostitute from the Russian mob. Premiere is September 26.
EDGE OF TOMORROW---poster released of the sci fi movie starring Tom Cruise as a military officer who is killed during an alien invasion and must relive the battle over and over as he comes closer to learning how to defeat the invaders. Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Ciaran Hinds and Jeremy Piven also star. Premiere is June 6.

THE GOONIES 2---director Richard Donner (LETHAL WEAPON) said Steven Spielberg is returning as producer/co-writer, the same capacity he had for the original movie, "Steven came up with the idea of doing a sequel after thirty years. We've been trying for a while. And then he came up with another story line. He's right on." All members of the original cast expressed an interest in returning.
STEVE JOBS---director Danny Boyle (127 HOURS, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE) is in talks to replace the departed David Fincher. Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks to star in the untitled Steve Jobs biomovie.
THE WALKING DEAD---showrunner Scott Gimple commented on how long the series could run, "As a TV show, all TV shows end, but I will say, I think it's possible that it could go on and on and on. I think if it went ten years, if it went longer than that, it's possible that the cast - considering the amount of deaths on this cast and everything else - after ten, twelve years, it could shift into a whole new cast."
NATIONAL TREASURE 3---producer Jerry Bruckheimer commented on the sequel, "Those are the hardest movies to make because they're all based on clues. It's so difficult to work them out. But, we got a first act in [on Friday], and Jon [Turteltaub] was very excited about it and I'm very excited about it. Hopefully, the first act will lead into the second act and the third act, and we'll get this thing going."
THE FANTASTIC FOUR---writer Simon Kinberg said about the reboot movie, "They're older than high school, but they're not quite grown into the world. If anything, this is a coming of age story. It depends on what books you look at. There are some, like the Ultimate books, that tell this story. So it is an origin story of the Fantastic Four, and it does follow them before they really know what a superhero is."
THE LONGEST NIGHT---movie underway about the 2008 Coast Guard rescue of 42 members of a 47-man fishing trawler crew that sank in the Bering Sea. Frank Marshall (ALIVE, ARACHNOPHOBIA) is the director.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE---Robert De Niro, who had replaced James Gandolfini in the HBO seven-hour miniseries, has left due to schedule problems, and has been replaced by John Turturro. The plot involves an ambulance-chasing New York lawyer who defends a man accused of murdering a girl. Also, HBO has renewed VEEP and SILICON VALLEY.

GAME OF THRONES---George RR Martin commented on the controversial rape scene in the last episode, "The whole dynamic is different in the show... The setting is the same, but neither character is in the same place as in the books, which may be why [producers] played the sept out differently. But that's just my surmise; we never discussed this scene, to the best of my recollection.
The scene was always intended to be disturbing, but I do regret if it has disturbed people for the wrong reasons."
