Just to clarify -- the iTunes version of LAIR is something SCEA threw together with (possibly) the composer's approval back in the day. This new 2 cd set is something Mr. Debney produced along with Dan Goldwasser for LLL Records. Like it or not, its as definitive as its gonna get. From the looks of the sales and all the feedback most people love this release.

BTW, Mr Debney will be signing this cd next weekend (along with a host of his other works), Saturday April 26 at Creature Features in Burbank!

Looks like we can't buy it on the Creature Features website... bummer. It's hard to get to signing events while living on the east coast.

Finally took advantage of the sale...grabbed Superman: TAS, Star Trek: TMP and Hook, and saved a total of $24.99 on the lot. smile Was always holding out for a sale price on Hook, but the low quantity warning plus the 20% off means I basically spent only five bucks for it. big grin

Any suggestions of where to put the extra tracks in the playlist? I put the "Concert Suite" first. I like the rest of the regular tracks as is. Not sure where to put "Lair Trailer" or the two demo tracks. More than likely I will leave the demo tracks at the end.

Just got back from a trip away and spent the last while putting stuff into my LLL basket, taking bits out, putting others in. So many bits I'd like to order but will need to pass on for the moment, particularly Patriot Games, X-Files Volume 2 and Green Lantern AS Vol 2.

In the end I ordered just Lair, Rosewood, X2 and Wyatt Earp. The last 3 have been on my want list since their release. (though the $30 postage was sadly more than the 20% off, cursed multi CD releases smile )

Don't miss out on this chance to get Lair at a discount! I bought it blind, and you should too!

I want Lair to lead to a proper release of Little Giants but I guess that might be Intrada territory ... No wait it's not a Disney movie is it, so maybe LLLR might tackle it one day. (Like I hope that Intrada will one day tackle Mighty Ducks)

Regarding Mars Attacks, before it's OOP, is it something worth getting if I have the Elfman/Burton box? What are the main differences? The album in the box was generously expanded.

I was going to get my copy from CF too, but only a few days left until the signing and it's still not available to purchase from their website and there has been no response from them on several enquiries everywhere... frown

any ideas when this should be available?

The LLL release has two score trackS not available on the Elfman box-

31. Martian Lounge (alt) 3:00
32. The End? 0:06

Additionally it has the two songs - Indian Love Call and It's Not Unusual.

The Elfman box has a track not on the LLL release -

28. The Landing (extended film version)

Wasn't sure whether to start a new thread, but in the interests of not overthreading the board, just wanted to add my appreciation for Lair, it really is as terrific as has been made out. If you miss properly written, complex, muscular action writing, this is the album for you... even the wailing woman (whatever happened to her as the affection du jour for film music?!) sounds great. Highly recommended.

You took the words right out of my fingertips, Tom. What a massive beauty LAIR is.

The bonus concert suite is a powerhouse as well, and the sound quality is much better than I'd expected after reading the comments posted above. The infrequent applause doesn't bother me in the least--it's a live concert, after all. If I were in the audience, I'd be clapping my ass off!

I cannot recommend this album highly enough. A+ all around.

Regarding THE UNKNOWN KNOWN, I originally posted this comment in the Now Playing--May 2014 thread in reply to Thor, who stated that it's his favorite score of the year, but it bears repeating here on the chance that it might turn someone onto it who is ambivalent or indifferent (as I was at first):

It's rather chameleonic, isn't it? If I'd listened to it before knowing what film it was written for, I'd guess a horror, thriller or fantasy. It sounds like it'd fit perfectly in any of those contexts, but a political documentary? In a blind taste test, I never would have guessed. I haven't seen the film and doubt I ever will, but as a stand-alone listen it's mesmerizing, beautiful, and more than a little bit creepy. The dialogue between percussion, piano and strings throughout the score is captivating if you listen attentively, and the percussion in some of the tracks (14, for example) even reminds me of Cliff Martinez, which gives it a bit of a Solaris vibe in places. The choral work gives it an almost liturgical air, adding to its aura misterioso. So yeah, to put it simply (which I do best), I really dig it, too.

What he said. It is astoundingly good. I heard people kept asking for an official release, but I never dreamed it would be THIS beautiful! It is guaranteed I will listen to this album many more times.

Thank you, John Debney and LLL.

How is LAIR selling? I've got my copy already, with signature. I listened to it the day it arrived and it was truly great, 4,5 / 5 for me. I've spoken highly of the album to my score collecting facebookfriends. Should I tellem to pick this up immediately?

I just ordered a batch of nine CDs from LLL - Lair among them - but, according to their respective webpages, of the scores for which signatures were initially available, all of the autographed booklets had run out. Imagine my surprise when I received my shipment, opened it, and found an extra set of liner notes for the aforementioned score, with Mr. Debney's name scrawled on the cover. Thanks for the unexpected treat, La-La Land!
