I love their Italian Peplum series -- and only have a few titles to go before I have all of those. I've been afraid to get too many of the Italian Western, Police or Giallo series as I might find them addictive, too.
Seriously, though, there are so many wonderful releases that I couldn't possibly pick just a handful of favorites. Looking at the album covers in this thread makes me want to go on a Digimarathon!
My database shows that I have purchased 71 of their titles, to date - I particularly liked it when I could buy direct from them but I recall they stopped that a few years ago.
Most have been good buys and some of my favourites have been listed above. As I type I'm listening to one of the best, IMHO, Ennio Morricone's Cosa Avete Fatto A Solange?.
I had previously purchased this score on two other CDs and, I acknowledge that the expansion doesn't offer a great deal more (though there is another version of the exquisite Main Theme) - and the cover is one of their least inspiring! - but it works wonderfully well. It's one of Morricone's best giallo scores and I return to it often.
Another ... a truly superb listen, despite being a combination of two scores, ... is Senza Sapere Niente Di Lei/Lui Per Lei ... excellent!
Carlo Rustichelli - Sei Donne Per L’Assassino from La Frusta E Il Corpo/Sei Donne Per L’Assassino
Hi, MI6.
I notice that you single out Rustichelli's BLOOD AND BLACK LACE over his WHIP AND THE BODY.
I'm interested in reading different viewpoints, because Tim Lucas praises Rustichelli as the best composer to have worked with Mario Bava and claims WHIP AND THE BODY is a personal favorite.
Speaking for myself, Rustichelli's piano rhapsody ("Windsor Concerto") for WHIP AND THE BODY wears out its welcome after about 2 renditions. It's simply too romantic for my tastes.
I wonder if you feel the same way about this sort of old-school romanticism?
CDDM088 - Franco Micalizzi - Sei jellato amico hai incontrato sacramento - I due volti della paura
I noticed several people mention this album.
I own not one thing by Micalizzi, so I'll take a look at the albums of his music and see if there's anything I'd put onto my wishlist...
I just love this CD. So many great cues on the Western, & then there's the thriller, where the main title music is wonderful, worth the price of the CD alone, & it has the voice of Edda Del'Orso. You need a Morricone or Rozsa CD to have this many great tunes.
Seriously, though, there are so many wonderful releases that I couldn't possibly pick just a handful of favorites.
Appreciate you love for Digitmovies, Josh M!
However, this is not too helpful for Mr. Advise & Consent to help him decide how best to get into some Italian genre soundtracks.
Let's see some picks.
As you wish, Mr. Row.
Here are just a few choice picks for now (note: the youtube samples are not indicative of the the sound quality of the CDs themselves, which sound much better):
Pensione Paura ( 1977) - Adolfo Waitzman
Albert E L'Uomo Nero (1976) - Franco Micalizzi
Il Dio Chiamato Dorian (1970) - Peppino De Luca
Stridulum (1979) - Franco Micalizzi
[b[Incubo - Sulla Citta Contaminata(1980) - Stelvio Cipriani
Lo chiamavano Trinita'... (1970) - Franco Micalizzi
La banda del gobbo (1977) - Franco Micalizzi
Milano trema: la polizia vuole giustizia (1973) - Guido & Maurizio De Angelis
The Christmas that Almost Wasn't (1966) - Bruno Nicolai
SETTE SCIALLI DI SETA GIALLA (CRIMES OF THE BLACK CAT) / KILLING BIRDS (UCCELLI ASSASSINI) (1972/1988) - Carlo Maria Cordio/Manuel Di Sica
All of the titles mentioned in this thread together barely even scratch the surface. The entire Digitmovies catalog is a treasure trove of aural ecstasy. I could (and would) go on all night, but I have to catch some zzzzzzzz...
