MONDAY, MARCH 31 TOP GUN 2---producer Jerry Bruckheimer commented on the sequel's status, "We've been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we're getting closer and closer. Don [Simpson] and I tried to develop something, we didn't succeed. [Tom] Cruise took over, and he tried to develop something, and he didn't succeed. Now we're back at it." The late Tony Scott, the first film's director, explained the sequel plot, "The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones. Cruise is going to show them that they're not obsolete. They're here to stay." RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES---Andy Serkis said the sequel is set ten years after DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and will lead to a third movie, "The ape community, where Caesar has...set up and galvanized all the apes, the chimpanzees and the orangs, and the chimps into one family, one tribe that he's the ruler of. But he’s an egalitarian leader, and so you really think you're watching a tribe at the beginning, and I'm really excited about people seeing that, and then suddenly having the rug pulled from out under their feet when the humans turn on them." WESTERNS---Kevin Costner said he wants to return to movie Westerns with a four-film series, "I've got this Western that I think I could make. I actually have this idea to make them all at once and release one on Memorial Day, one on Thanksgiving, and then one on the Fourth of July, all within a 12 month span, because it's all the same story but it truly is a journey, with a fourth movie coming right after." BLOOD FATHER---Mel Gibson is in talks to star in this movie about an ex-con who must protect his estranged teenage daughter from murderous drug dealers. The script is by Peter Craig (THE TOWN). HELIX---Syfy renewed the series for Season 2. ABC canceled the spin-off ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND. THE EXPENDABLES---Pierce Brosnan confirmed he will co-star in a sequel but doesn't know which one. AMAZON STUDIOS---ordered six series from pilots: THE AFTER, BOSCH, TRANSPARENT, MOZART IN THE JUNGLE, WISHENPOOF! and GORTIMER GIBBON'S LIFE ON NORMAL STREET. ALPHA HOUSE was renewed for Season 2. AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW---Michael Chiklis (THE SHIELD) joins the cast as the father of Evan Peters and the ex-husband of Kathy Bates. FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM---Warner Bros. plans a movie trilogy based on the JK Rowling book. MAGIC MIKE XXL---director Greg Jacobs and most of the original cast are returning for the sequel. LEFT BEHIND---Nicolas Cage and Lea Thompson star in this movie based on the best-selling Rapture novel. Premiere is October 3. THE INCREDIBLES---the sequel is underway with Samuel L. Jackson saying he might return, "Every time I run into Brad (Bird) he always tells me Frozone is going to be part of whatever's going on, so I have to believe that, I guess they would be the Incredibles without Frozone, but I think Frozone would be a wonderful, wonderful addition to what's already there. I'm just looking forward to seeing what Jack-Jack turned into." MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.----villain Blackout (Patrick Brennan) will appear on the April 15 episode.

Sounds ambitious, but more Kevin Costner westerns is a good thing. Open Range especially was fantastic. THE EXPENDABLES---Pierce Brosnan confirmed he will co-star in a sequel but doesn't know which one. Awesome. I'd be down for that. THE INCREDIBLES---the sequel is underway with Samuel L.
