I love movie biographies about famous rock starts like LA BAMBA and THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY, just to name a few. This summer we get to watch GET ON UP, the story of James Brown. The same director who directed THE HELP will direct this movie along with two great actors from THE HELP, Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis. He will also bring back Thomas Newman, who scored THE HELP. I’m not sure how much of a score Newman will be able compose given that a lot of the score will be James Brown songs. Brown will be played by Chadwick Boseman, who played Jackie Robinson in 42. Watch the trailer below. Wow, he can dance, but then so could James Brown. (However, Boseman is much taller than the real Brown.)

Just thought I’d share my excitement about this movie.

“I feel good; you know that I would now.”

Also, Frankie Valli’s story as seen in the Broadway Play THE JERSEY BOYS is currently being filmed and is directed by Clint Eastwood. I’ve seen this play twice and adore it. The music is stunning.

Wow, Dogbelle. Pavarotti and James Brown together. I was amazed. Thanks for sharing.

There's a song album coming, but I haven't seen anything anywhere about a possible score album (if indeed there is enough score worthy of a release). Does anyone know anything?

John, there are only a few places where Newman provided an underscore. Very minimal. I heard a few spots where Newman placed any original music. If there were themes, I missed them.

On the other hand, I'd like to know if Newman orchestrated the songs sung in this movie. If he did, he did a great job on orchestrations.

I liked the movie. I loved the music by the "Godfather of Soul." My only disappointment was that "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag and I Feel Good," were not performed by the actor. I always thought those were two of his most famous songs. Both songs are played a bit for background.

Boseman is great. I guess he worked hours a day to learn Brown's dancing steps, and he rocks. I loved Nelsan Ellis who plays his best friend. Ellis is an underrated actor. This director did THE HELP and uses various actors from that movie.

Brown wasn't a really good guy in real life, but he made some great music.
