I am visiting family this week and wanted an ereader that was less bulky than my Nook to carry around with me. I picked up the Kindle Paper White and am thrilled with it. It is a bare bones ereader but the size is ideal. What I love most is the print. The non-glare backlit screen is fantastic and downloading books it ridiculously easy. I cannot wait to be able to read on the beach this year. I looked just like the woman in the Kindle ad trying to read my Nook. Still love my Nook and my paper books but the Kindle Paper White was a good buy.
I love my kindle. I use it all the time to read books, though I do have an older version with the keyboard and lacking a touch screen. It would be nice to have a touch screen but no point in replacing it when it works just fine. Maybe if I knew someone who would really want my old one I would care more to upgrade. The screen is really lovely and as close as we are going to get for a while. Only thing is I would love a larger one for those PDFs I want to read. The DX never caught on so it is always super expensive.
In advance of a holiday in thge Dominican Republic in a couple of weeks time, I've just updated to a Kindle Voyage and wow what a difference. The screen now genuinely looks like real print, whether reading inside or out. And it's so slim in comparison to my previous Kindle Touch.
Before I made the original transition to a Kindle never thought I'd be able to get on with an ereader. I love gadgets but ai also love the old fashioned feel, touch and smell of a book. However, I can't actually recall reading a paperback since ai got my first Kindle and I find it a total natural thing to read that way now.
It's just a shame that so many books I'd love are not yet available in electronic format. That said, my tastes are pretty eclectic when it comes to reading and I rarely ever read novels.
Naturally, ereaders will never replace books and ai still love large-sized coffee table books. But for paperbacks, I think the (electronic) writing is on the wall.
I recently received a Kindle Voyage to replace my 4-year old Kindle Keyboard and I absolutely love it! The greatest improvement over the keyboard is definitely the etched glass. I can now read anywhere I want with little or no glare. With my old Kindle I basically couldn't read in my living room with the shades open because the glare on the screen was so terrible. I also love the built-in light combined with the greater PPI -- it does look like reading a book on real paper. I also like that any word you look up in the dictionary is automatically saved as a flashcard so you can teach yourself new words quite easily.
I have about five favorite authors where I always buy their new books hardcover, but the rest of my book purchases are almost always digital (Kindle).
