Not just scenes and stills but a photo of Power on the floor during his heart attack being attended by film crew. Anyone viewing the video who has any sort of emotional connection to Power should be aware of that. As for the clips, they seem to me of a higher quality than anything currently in the film. Is it the acting, or was the script revised? Or did the director simply lose heart after Power's demise? I dont think that those photos of Power on the ground are from the scene he was filming when he had the fatal attack -- That scene was Solomon's final sword fight with Adonijah and his costume is quite different. You can see Power, Sanders and Lollobrigida in one b/w photo standing between takes as they get ready to stage that fight - it is also outdoors. The stills of Power on the floor look like the (indoor)scene where S&S are attacked by Josiah, Adonijah's cohort , and another man and Solomon has to fight them off. Before he accepted the role , Yul Brynner demanded and had revisions made to the script to fit his more macho approach to the role. The scene on youtube showing Solomon(Power )talking to Abishag(Pavan) about fighting his impulse to put his hand in the flame - a metaphor - is quite different than the one in the completed film. It is clear that King Vidor was in an unhappy situation and he did the best he could. I'm sure that they will make that happen. Thanks so much. I bought SOLOMON AND SHEBA on laserdisc. I bought it on DVD. I would certainly buy it on Blu-ray, and I'm sure others would, as well. I have so many dvd's and this is one of them. But I would buy it on Blu if it were available! My general rule on any more buys of films i already own these days is that if it were shot with a wide format system (i.e. 70mm or horizontal frame) i'll buy the blu-ray. I don't believe that many fans would agree on what constitutes a 'classic' film. A film that stands the test of time? Who knows? It's just that I've never heard anyone say that S&S is a 'classic' film. Favorite maybe..but classic? On a personal level I've always -until recently-enjoyed this film since seeing a trailer back in 1958 and actually seeing it first run(non Roadshow). Recalled the music and the chariots falling into the 'ditch'. Taped it from a HD showing last year and couldn't get past the wooden acting. Another 'favorite' bit the dust. In my case times have changed as well as taste. Many of the Roadshow epics I so enjoyed in the 50's and 60's just don't cut it any longer while well written and acted films such as Sunset Boulevard, Sabrina, Elmer Gantry are admired. Would love anything on the Ty Power version included. Don't believe that S&S played Roadshow in NY-though I have the program. Barabbas is another story. It would not surprise me to learn that the Italian version was longer by 20 minutes. Barabbas has some abrupt cuts that are quite apparent. The whole stoning episode in the first half of the picture is poorly edited and appears cut. The Barabbas DVD is the US Roadshow length EXCEPT it does not have the Overture, nor music leading to the Intermission(Barabbas being carted away from the mines) and the Entr'acte. Very often nowadays any film of a certain vintage (say pre-1970) is automatically catalogued as a classic. Leonard Maltin publishes a “Classic Movie Guide” which features 10,000 films up to his arbitrary cut-off point of 1965 but no one would claim that all those films are, as one dictionary definition puts it, “a work of art of recognized and established value”. I’d say it’s only the acceptance of majority critical opinion over the long term which makes a film a true classic, in that it is a work of excellence such as CITIZEN KANE or VERTIGO. On that definition I’m sure that SOLOMAN AND SHEBA does not qualify but it's obviously a classic film in the definition of it being of a certain vintage.    Posted:   Dec 10, 2014 - 10:52 AM     By:   Ed Lachmann   (Member) Many of the Roadshow epics I so enjoyed in the 50's and 60's just don't cut it any longer while well written and acted films such as Sunset Boulevard, Sabrina, Elmer Gantry are admired. My 2 cents worth. Point well taken. Still, I can't count the number of times I've pulled my TT "Egyptian","Demetrius" or "Khartoum" out to view again. I think they become something akin to "comfort food" for me. I imagine the SO welcomed "S&S" will become that also. I'm at an odd point in life when the socially conscious "controversial" films don't cut it for me anymore as much as they used to and I long for the bright colors, lovely scores, gorgeous costumes and intricate sets. Even "Citizen Kane" has come to annoy me, probably because I've become such a Marion Davis fan and just love films like "Show People". Or maybe it's just because the kid in me refuses to die.
