I don't get this. The fact that the music has been released, at all, isn't good enough for you?

If the options are iTunes only or no release at all, give me iTunes only any day.

Sorry, but I agree with Lokutus. If the option is only iTunes then I pass on the release until it is released on CD.

It's not good enough, no. Not only is it lossy, but it's a different format, AND one is forced to install iTunes to buy it. No thanks. I will pirate it before I do that.

I'd be willing to buy a true lossless (i.e. not just transcoded from the lossy files) download at a reasonable price. CD is of course better. Given that this release is around 40 minutes, and if there's supposed to be four volumes, it looks like it'd likely work as a 2CD set no problem.

Agreed. Even though I prefer buying CDs over digital downloads, if the only choices are digital or nothing at all, I'd rather have digital.

There seems to be no mention of this release ANYWHERE. I searched for one of the track titles + Cosmos, and got exactly one website -- JWFan (which is blocked by my virus blocker for some reason O_O)

RE: Lossy - Apple actually has a lot of music lossless, and I think it pretty much all is now (Apple Lossless at CD quality I believe).

I absolutely prefer a physical release on CD, but I'm not going to slam iTunes for what it is not.

Well, I'd rather spent my cash on something that has an actual value, which overpriced bunch of low quality files don't.
If that's good enough for anyone, good for you.
I'll rather spent my money elsewhere.

I do wish they used the original Cosmos theme. I guess they didn't want to pay for the rights, or Vangelis wasn't interested.

You may feel as you wish, but when I purchase an iTunes only release, I am spending my cash on something that has actual value: the music. The value I get out of my music is in the listening. I very rarely resell a CD, so their resale value is irrelevant to me. The value of a CD is no greater to me than the value of an .mp3 of high enough quality that I can't tell the difference, because the entire value of the thing, to me, is in the quality of what's going into my ears and not in the arrangement of atoms or electrons on a shelf or on a hard drive.

You can't buy anything from iTunes in Apple Lossless just yet (for some insane reason).

I prefer a physical CD myself, but that is a great line! And very appropriate for a Cosmos thread.

Count me in the crowd for staying away from iTunes. Lossy music, not acceptable. No physical product, no artwork, no linear notes, sucks. With so much great music on cd I can pass on the digital only music and not feel like I'm missing something.

That said, I would be interested in a physical copy of this score.

Available on Qobuz as well, for those of you displeased with a digital-only release. Regular CD sound quality, so there's no "real" argument against it. Cheers.

No fan of iTunes, I.
But I can understand that there are some circumstances where buying from iTunes was acceptable.
For instance, crappy contemporary disposable pop music (some of which I actually like, depending) where high fidelity is not paramount... iTunes okay.
But orchestral music and film/TV scores where fidelity obviously IS important?
iTunes NOT okay.
