Looking forward to hearing this very much. If they've found these masters, one wishes that they'd also do David and Lisa, which I love.

This really is an exceptional set. Sound is stunningly good. Already having The Carpetbaggers part of it, and not being keen on the Baby The Rain Must Fall score with its pop flavor, the set for me is about the other four albums. I'm pleased to say I rate all of those four as 10/10 quality... Strongest possible recommendation! Basil, invariably my opinions are perfectly reflected in your witty remarks and comments, sometime very enjoyable (what a "divertissement" your "list of shame" on O.K. CORRAL!). So for the Ava Collection box, I agree with you about the little interest of BABY RAIN MUST FALL, I think enclosed for completeness, compared to the top five titles. Not having yet in my hands the ordered box, and fearing about the quality, I remained reassured by your report portraying an almost perfect sound. But a thing that has not been told is this: the CD release of these discs, compared to the old LP album editions, is technically important not only for the absence of hiss, rumble, skating, stylus error, if not tics and crackle, but for the constant flow of data. The LP album runs at 33,3 r.p.m., with constant rotation, and this gives a different linear speed on the external and the inner grooves. So we have a changing linear speed from about 20 to about 8,5 inches per second, that means a strong loss of quality from edge to center. For that reason, certain important tracks are located on the edge, while the less important in the center. As for TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, we had the A1 "Main Title" and B1 "Tree Treasure" at high speed and A5 "To Kill Mockingbird" and B6 "Summer's End" at low speed. The Ava box gives the perfect solution, and this is a further good reason to buy it even if the old albums are still mint and playable.
