BATES MOTEL
Music Composed by
Chris Bacon
(Smash, High Ground)

Bates Motel serves as a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film, Psycho, and gives viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates' psyche unravels through his teenage years.

Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first hand just how deeply intricate Norman’s (Freddie Highmore) relationship with his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga), truly is and how she helped forge the most famous serial killer of them all.

Chris Bacon provides a dark, moody, appropriately Herrmanneqsue score.

One of A&E’s biggest hits, the critically acclaimed Bates Motel reopens for Season 2 on March 3.

This actually has an incredible amount of promise based on Chris Bacon's superb Herrmannesque writing in parts of Source Code...I'm intrigued!

me too! smile) It's about time for another signing smile

Too bad there is no HIGH GROUND CD available... this one would have been perfect for limited edition series... right now there is just not enough Bacon music available - Space Chimps, Source Code, Gnomeo and Juliet and now upcoming Bates Motel. Unless I missed something...

Wow! I was hoping someone would release this terrific score!

I would not have thought it would be Varese.

Thank you. Ordered!

Listening to some cues on youtube, sounds like a nice addition to the Psycho universe!

I really enjoyed the first series of this and I've been impressed by Bacon so far (who sounds like a newer/fresher version of James Newton Howard, who was a mentor of his, I think).
However, I don't remember a note of the music from this series, despite loving the show.
It didn't register at all with me.

I'm really excited for this release. I was hoping Varese would come through. Lots of Herrmann throwbacks but very original stuff. Pleasantly surprised with the show, too. It seems like TV is putting out better music than film these days.

Ditto to a T for me as well.
But glad that others are happy there will be a disc! Maybe it will play
better on CD than in the show?

Well, this explains Robert Townson's new cover photo on Facebook (the Bates motel). People were commenting hoping it meant a release of PSYCHO II or PSYCHO III (though haven't Intrada hinted that they are working on them?). I was hoping it meant a release of the Herrmann score! I'm interested in this, though. I have the series on Blu-ray, ready to view. I'll try and pay attention to the music while I watch it.

What if Varese could release a box with music from various Psycho films (and TV-films and television series).

This is surely what Townson's FB page referenced - he has changed his cover
photo to a BATES promo shot as well.

No OST of the Herrmann, expanded 2 & 3, Revell unreleased 4 yet gang.......

It's interesting that the original release date coincided with Intrada's Psycho II, but I doubt that was a coincidence. Sadly according to Varese's website the release date has been moved again (last date was April 15th I believe) to May 20, which'll probably be around the current season's finale. Anyways I was planning on ordering this with Goldsmith's Psycho II. So hopefully it won't be delayed again.

I hope so, too. I became an instant fan when I watched the series and was delighted by the announcement of a score.

I wonder why these delays happen so often with Varese. Are they too quick to announce before everything has been worked out?

I hear some networks are notoriously hard to deal with. Take all of the Fringe soundtracks, for instance. I heard straight from the composer that some artwork deals took over half a year to work out. I suppose some companies are just very slow and don't prioritize score releases.
