I hope it doesn't succumb to the tried and true biopic formula, but still might be worthwhile even if so. Desplat has been scoring most of my most eagerly awaited films this year (Monuments Men, Grand Budapest), so I'll be curious to hear how he approaches this subject matter. I also wonder just how much that stunning list of prestigious screenwriters actually contributed to the script!
I'm calling it now - Best Picture. I can't remember the last time a trailer moved me to tears. Can't wait to hear what Desplat creates for it, Jolie hired Yared for her last film, she clearly appreciates great film scoring. Her simple, confident, old-fashioned style with the camera looks similar to Clint Eastwood's, which I also admire. Here's hoping she has as long a career behind the camera as him.
BTW, for anyone else who's as curious as I was, the powerful trailer music, clearly based on John Murphy's "Adagio" from SUNSHINE as a temptrack, is this:

No. This is so much better than the drained color/crap looking photography the Eastwood is so fond of these days. ;-)
Works for me. I'm a huge fan of earnest, sentimental and manipulative as long as they're done skillfully. I go to the movies to be transported. Sometimes that's by a documentary-style realism, but mostly it's by something stylized and elevated and this looks like that. Guess it's not your cup of tea. But it's the exact style that wins awards...
The book is incredible. I flew through the first half in a couple of days but then needed a break from the horrors of the POW camp. I returned to it after reading something lighter.
