May I suggest that the soundtrack labels who monitor and participate here consider Dave Grusin's TELL THEM WILLIE BOY IS HERE score for CD release.

It's one of my favorite Grusin scores. I'd love to own it some day. Pair it with the two rejected scores (Jimmy Webb, Pat Williams), and you have a great set.

Good score. NEW YORK STATION WOR-TV channel 9 showed this to death in the 70's.Not shown much anymore.

Here's a great example of the score as heard in the film, with the main theme hidden in brief spurts and long notes, and occassional quick jumbles:

It's also a great example of scoring a film, in my opinion. I recall reading this is one of Grusin's favorite efforts.

Love the movie and the score, as I know Richard-W does from his posts about this film on other forums. If the tapes exists, yes, please give us this one.

Yes, please.

This would be an instant purchase for me....it may be my favorite Grusin. If it is true that this is Grusin's personal fave, it is one of the few times I agree with a film composer's evaluation of their own music.

Glad to hear others appreciate this Dave Grusin score.

I didn't know there were rejected scores. I'm not sure I want to hear them.

Watched again via a good 35mm print last night at the Metrograph. Excellent, excellent film and what a score by Grusin...his haunting, eerie, minimalist music really is the perfect accompaniment to the film, which has some ghost story elements, particularly in the final act. Seeing and hearing this film again, I was reminded of Grusin's later score for THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE in some sections. Are the tapes still extant? Maybe it could be paired with THE GREAT NORTHFIELD MINNESOTA RAID, another Universal Western.

Shame it couldnt be paired with Grusin's Shoot Out as well.
Somebody will tell me its from a different stable and not possible, but overall, far too many 70s westerns remain scandalously unreleased.
