So as some of you might shocked to find out, given my avatar and all, one of my all time favorite movies is A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984). so with it's upcoming 30th anniversary, I'm hoping we might get a special release of Charles Bernstein's score, expanded and complete

...or maybe the entire series scores in a box set (wishful thinking I know, but wouldn't that be cool?)

Same here! I would love a complete set a la-la the Friday the 13th box set.

I was disappointed with Varese's bland reissue in 2005, not even including the sequel score by Christopher Young like the original release had. Of the Nightmare scores, most of them have had pretty lengthy releases; Aside from Bernstein's original, for me the best candidates for expansion are Dream Warriors, especially for the unreleased Ken Harrison material, and J. Peter Robinson's New Nightmare for the end sequence which is too short on the album.

I fully agree.

The Ken Harrison material from pt. 3 is great.

New Nightmare also misses a lot of music from the finale (also like the unreleased music when Heather leaves the hospital and calls Robert Englund while driving to Wes Craven's house).

Part 2 is almost complete but misses at least one great track (a fast paced version of the main title for the scene in which the bus enters the desert)

I'd love expanded releases of Pts. 1, 2, 3 and 7.

I think 5 and 6 are complete.

Part 4 also has some missing music and could be expanded - it would be great if the songs of part 4 were also released.

I'd like a comprehensive release of the scores from this series.

Charles Bernstein's theme has become iconic.

I love the music from all of the Nightmare movies. They are all so DIFFERENT from each other.

I'm assuming this falls into Varese Sarabande jurisdiction. If you are reading this, PLEASE release a box set of the complete scores.

NEW NIGHTMARE is already 66 minutes, so it's not high on my priorities. I would like a proper hi-qual version of the funky end credits rendition of the the theme, though, rather than my DVD rip.

Is there that much still unreleased for the first film? I've never done a comparison, but it doesn't seem like it's missing anything major. I like the existing release just fine. It would have to be some kind of extremely substantial expansion if I was going to buy it again.

Considering how boring the sequel's score is, I don't mind it being left off.

Yes, with the exception of New Nightmare, the rights to the soundtracks are all owned by Varese while New Nightmare is owned by Milan

Just finished watching this movie (for what has to be the 1000th time). I would, without hesitation, buy a Deluxe Edition of this score. It is largely responsible for the film's impact. It added a great deal of atmosphere (especially in the dream sequences) that was otherwise only modestly established by the visuals. (Jerry Goldsmith's "The Omen" had a similar effect.) Take, for example, the dream sequence where Nancy walks down the street, to the police station and then runs back to the house and up those "quicksand" stairs. Can you imagine how boring all of that would have been without Bernstein's contribution?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't MV from La-La Land mention that Varese also still owns Bernstein's "April Fool's Day" (which has yet to receive any kind of CD release)? Maybe Varese could combine the two in a single set.

Doubtful - April Fools=Paramount / Nightmare=New Line

NOESt. is on my to re-watch Halloween blu ray pile, and I've also seen it
1001 times.....but I'm hard pressed to remember anything REALLY
missing from the extant cd? Or is it just a remix/master, new liner
notes type issue everyone is wanting?

I agree, its a terrific score, one of the best 80's synth horror scores in the book.

Yes, unfortunately. He confirmed it in response to a post of mine. It is one of very few Varese-controlled titles that I want.

Okay. I wasn't sure if that mattered, given that both scores (in spite of the conflicting studios) are owned by the same record label. Then again, now that I think about it, I can't recall offhand if that has EVER allowed for that type of 2-in-1 set.

Heck no. There's about 15-20 minutes of good music missing (not the least of which is from the entire "Freddy Calls/Tina's Death" sequence) plus a ton of stingers, the "Nightmare" song (performed by 213) and alternates (if any).

Some of the stingers are different on the album than in the film as well.

NOESt

Though,
In lieu of wishing for what wont happen... for some time anyway...

Is SHOCK WAVES due soon?
I've been looking forward to it for some time now.

It sure would be nice to have a remastered/expanded CD of Charles Bernstein's original score
from 1984.

Btw, has anyone here seen the TV interview Charles did for ELM STREET back in 1984?
A few years ago he sent me some video stills/images from this interview and they show
him working in his home studio with a bunch of synths and recording equipment.

As for SHOCK WAVES, it'll be released in Nov or Dec I think.
