Does it bother you enough to prevent you from buying a new (still in original packaging) cd?

Edit: A hole the size of a hole punch in response to Grecchus - good question smile

I guess my annoyance/disappointment would be about proportional to the size of the hole. big grin

It doesn't bother me in the least. It's the music I'm after, not the rear inlay artwork (and the jewel case is replaceable).

Heck yeah it bothers me! Because it devalues the product. The most infuriating thing is when I see it done to a collectable item, like limited editions. Why would someone deface a collectable item, its just stupid!

Doesn't bother me. I've bought a few CDs that had them, and if the hole also went through the jewel case, I just replaced it. Even bought one or two CDs that had notches cut through the spin of the case.

It does not bother me. As far as the cd being devalued, I am not at the point where I am selling or trading any of the music I own so the value is based on how much I treasure the item. I replace the case as well. I am just curious about how others feel about it.

I buy for the music, not the barcode.

To me it's like showing off your new 50" TV with a cracked screen.

You really enjoy viewing the back of a CD case the same way as viewing a TV screen? Or is a CD more for "showing off" than listening?

I call them "bullet holes." They used to bother me (aesthetically), but not so much anymore. Same with light scratches on the discs. I've mellowed over the past few years when it comes to condition. If it plays, it stays.

However, if I had a choice between one with a bullet hole and one without, and they were both the same price, I'd choose the one without.

I still dislike saw-cuts through the spines, since they're visible from the side when the CD is on the shelf and are rather unsightly, but that practice seems to have gone the way of the dodo, so it's not really an issue anymore.

A lesser pet peeve are the half-moon impressions in the front insert caused by the jewel case tabs when the booklet is improperly inserted into the case. So annoying because it's so easily preventable. Still, not a deal-breaker if the price is right.

Water-damaged inserts are a real turn-off, though.

I like the "If it plays, it stays." motto. I hate the slit too and promptly replace the case. Once I received one with insert "glued" together like a deck of cards. That really annoyed me but I actually found a replacement at Goodwill later. Who knew?

No, it doesn't bother me in the least. I've bought plenty of cut outs like this and will buy more.

What was worse was back in the 80's & 90s when deleted items would have notches cut into the spines, rough, sometimes burned notches. THOSE were awful.

But no, as long as the rest of the artwork is fine and the disc plays, no issues with me

This. I don't care about the resell value, or do I need a mint copy. But it just looks unattractive with a bullet hole in it.

I don't mind the bullet holes and saw cuts.

It's like the cd has a voice, saying "I know that I am scarred and unattractive... but you still love me".

Mine say, "Clever boy! You got me cheap, but I sound just like new!"
