Saw this mentioned on TD's site a few days ago but no details. Excellent news really as the official soundtrack has little relation to the in-game score. I had ummm... ripped some score tracks from Youtube ( can I say that? ) and they are fine but a definitive release - if this IS such - is what i've been wanting.

I HOPE it is at least a 2 disc set, maybe even 3, as TD has released a number of 3 disc sets lately. Given it'll be limited to 2000 sets, they may make it a multi disc set.

I play the game with the score turned off. I hear the main loading theme, of course. If that's indicative of the TD score I don't think I've missed anything. Vague synth chords in no particular progression. Not even a beat.

Oh, and bumping your own threads looks desperate.

This was actually my favourite game score of 2013, although I haven't really played the game (as I don't really play videogames in the first place), but based purely on a few game soundtracks that I've heard.

Dissing other boardmembers, now that's desperate. I'm pleased this got bumped, cause apparently I missed this thread when it was first posted. And as someone who plays the game with the score turned on (so I know it's more than just vague synth chords), I'm very pleased with this announcement

Is Rockstar studio actually releasing the soundtrack? Tangerine Dream predominately contributed about 3 to 4 tracks in total to the whole soundtrack as it was composed by Tangerine Dream, Woody Jackson (rockstar's usual composer) The Alchemist, Oh No & DJ Shadow. The soundtrack was truly amazing as a whole i must say though. I loved the 80's feel that TD captured with mostly Michael's missions as Michael was a movie man. They really did a great job with the pause menu theme as well. I can tell what woody's work is from listening to his soundtracks for Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3. He's a very analog, live instrument guy from what i can hear.

Geez, how much I dislike you.

I see you have "thinking and learning" as interests. I encourage you to increase both.

I believe it is TD's own label Eastgate which will release a soundtrack with TD's music only. And TD wrote HOURS of music for the game, much of it didn't end up in the game I guess.

Wow, I'm even more excited for this now.

I've been having a bit of a Tangerine Dream flashback these past few days and I see this thread (good thing it was bumped). I'll be keeping my eye out for this now.

3 to 4 tracks ? The vast majority of the score is Tangerine Dream. The early gameplay seems to feature primarily Jackson and I'm guessing Oh No & DJ Shadow ( for Franklin's early missions and early Trevor missions ), but once Michael drives the story, virtually every mission has a TD score. I'd guess 70% or so is TD - with some of the extended "looped" music being remixed by the others.

The Rockstar album however, features mostly remixes and music from the others based on TD themes. After the disappointing album, the TD/ Eastgate release is the one I can't wait to get my greasy mitts on ! big grin

Surprised and disappointed that this is 1 CD. That'd be over $30 for one disc. Was so looking forward to this one... at that price for one disc am gonna have to think this one over.

Splurged on the CD after doing some killer overtime and it arrived today.

It is a solid album, but for me I do miss a lot of the game music that was so familiar to me through game play. Maybe 3 tracks were recognizable. "Burning The Bad Seal" is basically the skydiving theme, "Place Of Conclusions" is ( i think ) the opening heist action scene, but there's little else, NONE of the hard driving sequencer stuff from the huge action scenes. Was really hoping for the exciting "three's company" music that accompanies the helicopter chase & attack, some of that type of very energetic classic sounding TD.

It is a better GTA score album than Rockstar's official score album, but Froese again points out in the liner notes how he supplied 62 hours of score for the game so it is disappointing the 60 minute CD misses some of the more memorable game play music.

Of note: Eastgate has also made this album available as a digital download (for those not wanting to splurge on the CD, or -- in my case -- not interested in owning compact discs any longer)...

My USD total came to something like $13 and some change. And while I'm just now putting it on my iPhone and haven't yet listened I'm already happy with the purchase. I'm dismayed to hear from MikeP that it's missing some of the stellar sequencer material, though I think this hour's worth of new TD music will be a gem to my ears. I just wanna get out the word for those who would rather fork down for the digital release.

Thanks for the heads up, nuts_score. I'm not interested in the physical CD at its current price, especially with that abysmal cover art. I know it's the music that's important and they probably couldn't use any official images from the game, but man, it looks like the kind of stock make-your-own cover art that came with CD-burning programs back in 2001 or so. I'm all over that download though.

It IS a good album don't get me wrong, and your mileage may vary - the cues I was dying to hear may not have made an impression on anyone else. And of course, with 62 hours of music and one CD ... somethin's gotta give big grin

It is good stuff and some of it does sound like 80's TD scoring.
