...according to FMR, anyhow, who normally have a good ear to the ground:

http://filmmusicreporter.com/2014/01/17/danny-elfman-to-score-fifty-shades-of-grey/

Thoughts?

It's probably a composer assignment like this that's the only thing that would ever make me watch a film so blatantly out of my wheelhouse. But considering how Elfman was announced for he Hunger Games in a similar way, I'll believe it when I have the CD in my hands.

The film will probably end up risible and it's had a lot of press regarding it's casting changes, but it will probably be a huge hit too, based on the book sales and morbid curiosity.
I love that Elfman (if it's true) is willing to take on such a property. The guy likes to tackle all subjects.
If nothing else, the film will sound good, with or without the moans!! wink

This might be Elfman's Basic Instinct.

Has he ever scored "sex" before? I imagine he might be quite good at it.

Maybe it was "Mrs. Elfman" who persuaded Danny to score it?

The director seems like someone Elfman would want to work with, there's actually considerable talent behind the camera on this film.

Plus Elfman's been making smaller films more and more lately and erotica is one of the few things he hasn't done by now.

Elfman doing sex and abusive relationships? I'll listen.

Absolute ZERO interest in a film version of poorly written Twilight fan fiction turned into mommy porn big grin , but for Elfman I will be all over ( maybe not the best turn of phrase ) this album... provided we get a score album.

For me, Elfman's dramatic music is so much more interesting than his superhero / fantasy scores ( just not my cup of tea ). This is excellent news...

Quality of the books aside, this is one of Elfman's most interesting assignments in quite a while. If anything, I sort of imagine him coming up with something akin to his own "To Die For."

Consider too that it may just be a very brief score in a film with mostly songs, like "American Hustle."

To be clear, there is no Elfman in that trailer.

I have no particular interest in the film (or book, for that matter), but I'm curious to hear the musical universe he will create for this. These days, I'm more into his laidback, textural affairs than the big and bombastic stuff.

Persuaded him... how?

Only if Mission: Impossible does...

For me it's fit... the scene when the train enters the tunnel is indeed a sign of "sexuality"

It did for me. Kidman certainly aroused my interest in that film. 'Eyes Wide Shut' as well...

Elfman has never really done any sex-themed movies, unless you count HEARTBREAKERS where he did the theme -- but there was no real sex in it; it was just a politically correct comedy about seduction.

how about 1996 FREEWAY?

about pretty women (mother and sister) using her sexuality (and other tricks) for marrying millionaires. 100% politically correct. smile

Well, I meant politically correct in the sense of explicitness or overt sexuality. The mise-en-scene is pretty family-friendly, I would say, regardless of the story.
