After getting an Academy Award nomination I am very interested on listening to this score.
I can see there is no soundtrack released at the moment and there is no company behind to do it. I've decided to create this topic to get more info about this music.
Saw the movie yesterday and thought the score was excellent (it's also quite substantial, some of the cues running four or more minutes). Owen Pallett, for a while known as the one man band Final Fantasy, is one of my favorite musicians (singer, multi-instrumentalist par excellence, composer/arranger/orchestrator) and I'm glad he was able to share the nomination with Arcade Fire's William Butler (I assume Butler is the band's principal songwriter as he and Pallett are the only two people named in the nomination).
I think it was the same reason why their Herrmann-esque score for The Box was withheld from release. The label didn't want it "competing" with their actual album. Goofy.

Fantastic score, works very well within the confines of the film. If I were an AMPAS member it would get my vote if Thomas Newman wasn't in the running (as I think he's way overdue for awards recognition).

The electronics used in the score totally killed it for me. I couldn't make it past the first few tracks. YMMV. It was about what I expected considering the source.

Their music hasn't really been heavy on electronics at all until this new album (recorded roughly at the same time as this score), so I don't know how you expected that sound.
You may have stopped the album (or whatever) too early, as it gets better (piano!), but I still don't think it's exactly Oscar-worthy.
I love the flurry of strings at the opening of "Empty Room" from The Suburbs, in particular.
SiriusJr, why is it exactly that the use of electronic instrumentation would kill a score for you? They are simply another tool which this group of musicians used to achieve their wonderful score.
Does anyone know something about the release of this score? Kind of strange that there isn't even a digital release for an academy award nominated score!

I finally caught this film this week on DVD. I did plan to see it in the cinema but it came and went quite quickly at the main Liverpool art-house cinema it played on and I missed it. Thankfully it's not the kind of film that loses too much when viewed at home. I really liked the first hour or so but found myself getting a bit bored during the 2nd. Phoenix is really good and Scarlet J is soooo much more attractive when you can only hear her speak. It offers up some thoughtful stuff on people and relationships and interraction during these ever-changing times. I really liked the twist on the old relationship chestnut in who was the more needy and insecure by the end. I didn't even know the soundtrack had never been released properly. I have a mate who just 'gets stuff' and when it was passed to me many moons ago I just assumed it was from the official release. I did play it once or twice previously but it didn't register that much. Having seen the film, I haven't stopped playing it since. It really is a light and lovely piece of work and track 6 has been blasted many times by me these past few days. It fitted the film perfectly and added just the right amount of wistfulness and melancholy.
It is weird that there is a For Your Consideration promo which can be rather easy to come across, but no legitimate release of this score for people who would like to buy it. A true mystery of film score.
