I just loved the first season of BANSHEE and bought it on a sparkling set of Blu-rays. And was just reminded at IMDb that the second season starts tonight! Yes, it's certainly over the top, but what a delight!!!

I hate to be the sole response to my own posting, but I watched the premiere of the second season of "Banshee" last night and was disappointed. It just didn't seem to have the same edge (or magic) that I'm accustomed to from the first season and which made it hard NOT to watch it when I stumbled across it on Cinemax while channel surfing, even though I had the entire first season on Blu-ray. I kept thinking last night while watching it that I had little desire to buy it on Blu-ray. So I hope it can get back on track … soon!
1-13-14 follow-up: I watched the 2nd season premiere again last night and liked it more than I did the first time. Which was a relief.

The first season got better and better (and even more outrageous). Had no problem with the audio, whether I was watching it on Cinemax HD or the Blu-ray. And there was no problem with the first episode of season 2 last night. Watched most of the first season of "Strike Back," but kind of lost interest in it.

Watched episode 2 of the second season last night, and am happy to report that it was better than the first episode. But I worry that the producers think that the fans of the series watch it BECAUSE of the violence -- frankly, I watch it DESPITE the violence and groan whenever star Antony Starr gets beaten up twice in ten minutes! (Or SEEMS like he was!) At the moment I have no plans to buy the second season on Blu-ray, as I did with the first, which would put it in a category with "True Blood" and "Vampire Diaries," which I bought on Blu-ray their first seasons but not for subsequent ones. In the case of "Breaking Bad," I bought both the first and second season on Blu-ray, but recently discovered that I had never even opened the second season -- watching it on AMC was enough, and I rarely watch the broadcasted repeats -- some programs don't work so well as repeats. But I could probably re-watch all 8 seasons of "Dexter" and never get bored!

Just watched season one.
If not for the great female nudity I wouldn't watch this.
The violence is sadistic and almost pornographic.
I can accept violence as part of the action, but the continuous TORTURE scenes I can not accept.
I was thinkng of giving season 2 a try if they killed off Ben Cross, I hate that character.
Is he back?

Ben Cross' character, so far, is mostly gone -- we see him very briefly at the beginning and I think that his daughter sees flashes of him once or twice in her nightmares, but he is essentially gone, and we are well into the second season. As for the violence, yes, there's far far far too much of it -- I noted previously that if Antony Starr's character really got beat up like that nearly every episode, he'd be a bloody mess ... but, miraculously, 10 minutes after he's practically beaten to death, he looks like he just stepped off the cover of GQ magazine! Far too much violence for my taste too, but I keep watching! (But, unlike season 1, probably WON'T buy season 2 on Blu-ray.)
Follow-up: In the 3-7-14 episode, we get a very slight glimpse of Cross, and we see him in the trailer for next week, which will be the final episode for season 2. And he is listed at the end of the opening credits.

joan: Agree -- and I don't remember if we see his name in the opening credits. But since he remains Villain #1 you can be sure we're going to see him again! Not too long ago I was watching my Blu-ray of the great "Chariots of Fire," and it was startling to see how Ben looked back then ... but we've ALL changed quite a bit since "Chariots" was released! And glad to see how well you navigate the spoiler feature!!!

Cinemax's "Banshee" ended its 2nd season last night with quite a bang and with a slightly longer than usual final episode. Was typically over the top, with intertwining flashback threads. I still like the show, but not as much as I felt about it at the end of the 1st season. And it looks like Ben Cross' character is dead, as is the new tribe chief and the black police officer, and one of Hood's nemesis' is on his way back to town with a vengeance! Oh my!
