admitedly i was not a fan of superman: unbound at all, neither the movie nor the score. and also not a fan of digital downloads only. but i am a fan of DC animated and there's enough amazing success there to still have me curious about this. i can always use more DC music!

I'm way behind on watching the DC Animated releases (I may have seen all of them through All-Star Superman before I stopped), but I've been keeping up with the scores and they've been very good. Superman Unbound is a score that interested me greatly on album, because it doesn't sound much like a Superman score (while there are moments of heroicism, it "sounds" more like a score for the villain, Brainiac). It intrigued me about the movie, at any rate.

This note only says digital release, but I'm hopeful that it will get at least the Amazon burned CD treatment that Kliesch's "Unbound" got.

It probably will, seeing how Watertower has been handling its releases. This is a preferable option to just the MP3 download, which I almost never do. I still need to pick up Superman Unbound; it was a unique score for The Man Of Steel.

I picked this up with Superman Unbound and enjoyed it as well. Once again, it's in the same DCAU musical style of Wiedmann and Drake, and it works both within and outside the film.
"Justice League: War - Opening Titles"gives us an unfortunately brief glimpse of the JL theme in this film. It jumps right into the action with the next track, and for the most part doesn't really let off of the throttle. (I really like the piano run in "Rooftop Battle/Chase Through City". It stands out to me because it seems unusual in such an action cue [and I'm a pianist], but it works really well.) The JL theme doesn't make a noticeable return until "The Heroes Join Forces", which makes sense because their theme comes together at the moment the team does. Just like in Superman: Unbound, the end credits piece on the soundtrack is my favorite. It allows the triumphant JL theme to come thundering in in all its glory (though it doesn't do so until over halfway through the track). In summary, another Kliesch score is another winner in my book.

Here's an interview with Kliesch where he discusses War and briefly Superman Unbound - interesting to read, and it gives a little more insight to the sparing use of his Justice League theme

Thanks! This is what I figured, how (similar to The Avengers) the theme is hinted at and only fully stated once the team is together. Here's the excerpt:

KK: From the very beginning, I was instructed by the producer and director not to write character-specific themes. Their reasoning behind that was that this is the first time the superheroes meet each other, and they're all going through a sort of "getting to know you" phase. The only theme they wanted was that of the League itself, which I hint at throughout the film, but the full-on theme is only presented for the first time in the end credits. However, they did want an identifiable sound for the film's antagonist Darkseid, so instead of a theme, I came up with an interesting sound for him, which kind of sounds like a very low-pitched monster breathing.

Also, I could't resist the temptation to throw in my theme I wrote for Superman in Superman: Unbound. So that's kind of a little easter egg for the listeners.

I never noticed the Superman theme snuck in there! I'll have to give it another listen.
