Just got an email from Sepia Records with their latest releases.

Amongst them is an expanded CD release of the Original Soundtrack of "CINERAMA HOLIDAY".

Don't know if there are any Stereo tracks. The description just reads:

"First time on CD is the original movie sound track to the 1955 released "Cinerama Holiday" re-mixed from the movie audio tapes combined with music from the studio recording issued on the LP, making this Morton Gould score release as complete as possible for sound track buffs."

The original LP release is also included.

Always loved Morton Gould's score for this, so, mine is ordered !

Take a look at their site.....

Sepia is of course gray area on this board since all (or most) of their releases are public domain releases, but they are among my heroes. On the very same day they are releasing a "Wizard Of Oz" disk containing - for the first time on CD! - the complete Decca cast album. Something Decca has not been able to do since the dawn of the CD era...

Don't know if there are any Stereo tracks.

The top right of the CD cover reads "Hi Fidelity Stereo." So, judging by their earlier "Windjammer" release, at least a few of the tracks will be in stereo.

Mercury Records issued a LP (MG 20059) with 15 tracks, 11 of them by Gould.

RCA Victor issued a 7" 45rpm EP with 7 of the Gould tracks.

So it does. Thank-you, George....I hadn't noticed that.

After loving the LP for the past 50+ years, i'm looking forward to it even more now. smile

What are the differences between the RCA and the MERCURY releases? I am only familiar with the Mercury LP.

Thanks!

I have both the albums. The blue covered LP is conducted by Jack Shaindlin. The orange covered EP is conducted by Morton Gould himself. These seem to both be rerecordings. This was my first Cinerama film so I was anxious to have the music & bought both albums. I wore them out so that now they have those scratchy pops and clicks. I look forward to the new cd for a sweet clear recording hopefully much of which is in stereo. Both vinyl albums were before the stereo era on home recordings.

And here are the ones listed for the LP:

I have also posted this in the other "Cinerama Holiday" thread that has appeared....

My copy arrived yesterday and i'm very pleased with it.

As Moviebuff has said, what we have here are the raw Oyster Bay tapes. I think that most of the tracks are in Stereo, it's just that the separation is not particularly pronounced ! It's better on some tracks than others.

The original tracks from the LP sound terrific though, as Mercury tracks always do.

No attempt at editing had been done. The tracks are not in any sort of order, and the intro's & outros on every track are rather annoying.

However, last night, I skipped through the movie on DVD, jotted down all the music tracks, and I now have a correct running order. I have also spent the afternoon trimming all the intros/outros off.

I now have a copy with just the music, in the correct running order. I also have three tracks from the new CD that I can't place in the movie ? Maybe they are alternatives, or deleted scenes ??

If you love this score, as I do, it's well worth getting this new CD. Some of the arrangements in the movie are "sketchier" than on the LP, so, you may want to substitute some tracks ?

Here is the correct track sequence, as they appear in the movie. I have combined tracks from the LP and the new CD. Many of the track titles on the CD are misleading as they bear no resemblance to the scene in question. I have made amendments after the new CD titles.

Here goes ! :

Overture
Main Title - Cinerama Holiday March
Interior Theatre (Prologue)
Over The Alps (LP Release)
Swiss Train
Cartoon To Bobsled
Skating Waltz (LP Release)
Out West (LP Release)
New Hampshire Scenic, Opening & Insert
New England Carnival Music (Long Version)
New England Carnival Music (Love's Old Sweet Song)
New Hampshire Closing Sequence
On The Slopes (LP Release)
Skiers (LP Release)
Hup-Sa-Sa (Bertely Studer And Ernst Berchtold) (LP Release)
End of Act:1 / Intermission Tag (Swiss Waltz)
Entr'acte (Paris Waltz #2)
Paris
Paris Part II
Paris Promenade Part A
Notre Dame To Art Class
The Louvre (LP Release)
Holiday In Rio ( The Lido ) (LP Release)
Early Morning Market And Bike Ride
Joan Of Arc / Les Invalides - Napoleon
Arc De Triomphe
Arc De Triomphe End Section Brighter
Sea on Rocks / Washington / New York ( Exterior Theatre )
New York Ancillary Music
The Carrier
Catapult (Jets launching from Carrier)
Hail To Our Land (The United States Naval Academy Choir) (Cinerama Holiday LP Release)
Finale Second Section
Exit Music

These tracks don't seem to be in the finished movie ? :

Aircraft Carrier
Band Holiday Finale
Finale Act II

Hey CH-CD! Thank you for doing all the work to get the right running order; now I don't have to get the movie and do it myself. You really would have thought Sepia would have done this in the first place. Anyway, glad to hear you got your copy, that means mine should be here soon too. I'm really looking forward to it.

You're welcome, Jim.

Had to do it, or it would have driven me crazy !

You'll enjoy it when it arrives.

Have fun trimming out all the "Ok....take 46...here we go..." and "CUT !" s big grin

I agree. Thanks for doing all the homework on this one, CH-CD. Maybe someone here can figure out where the three remaining tracks go.

CH-CD:

I have a FANTASTIC old CD-burning program called JAM, in which you can easily change the volume of each cut, as well as easily state the start and end time of each track. This will be a cinch. Thanks again for the sequence!
