This is a very easy question to answer for me...but first... This has to be connected to reality: you can't have music that requires all the specialty instruments, expensive soloists, weird stuff, etc. ...but where do you draw the line? There's usually someone you can find out there who owns and plays that weird instrument (though if anyone knows of a Serpent owner/player in the Gloucestershire area please e-mail me!!!)...so specialty instruments are not out of the question I don't think...but expensive soloists is fair enough And usually real concerts are about 60-70 minutes of music with one intermission. Yes, many programmers - especially on the more amateur side of things - forget this...usual calculation is 2x50 (60 max) minute halves with a 20-minute break, so they programme 2x50 (60 max) minutes worth of music...forgetting about the length of time (and it is quite a lot when you add it up) for applause, welcomes, announcements, thanks etc etc etc.....and end up with a 3-hour+ concert (often longer...sometimes much, much longer!) which doesn't finish until after the pubs are shut....and THAT is a friggin' disaster!! OK - to my answer to your question, and sorry for droning on.... My dream concert programme, without any shadow of any doubt, would be: First Half 1. 20th Century Fox Fanfare 2. Star Wars - Main Title/Rebel Blockade Runner 3. Imperial Attack 4. The Dune Sea Of Tatooine/Jawa Sandcrawler 5. The Moisture Farm 6. The Hologram/Binary Sunset 7. Landspeeder Search/Attack Of The Sand People 8. Tales Of A Jedi Knight/Learn About The Force 9. Burning Homestead ....aaaaand you can kind of see where this is going London Symphony Orchestra conducted by myself will be just fine, thank you...!
