Did a search and couldn't find an existing thread on this terrific score so I had to start one. Bought this disc in the '90s and played it a lot at the time but hadn't listened to it in a while so I du it out and put it on. What a beautiful and melancholic score. Love the sororities Young achieves using string orchestra and string quartet. It's an exquisitely scored film as well IMO.
That's strange. I'm 99% certain that I did a thread on this awhile back. In either case, a wonderful score and album -- although the upbeat march stuff is a bit grating in this context.
Oh, it's one of my favourites too. Beautiful. The development of the main theme has a kind of James Horner-ish feel to it. Long-lined and unusually resolved. I think there was a time when Young was very heavily influenced by Horner. People will probably make a joke about that, but I hear a lot of Hornerisms in a few of his earlier scores. Goldsmith too, of course. And in HELLBOUND (was that HELLRAISER 2?) it's as if he's channelling Horner, but a Goldsmith-channelled Horner.
If that didn't make any sense, it doesn't matter. MURDER IN THE FIRST is great.
