I received my copy 3 days ago and have been listening to it endlessly ever since. I always loved the original soundtrack album but it is so amazing to hear the complete score. And the performance by the orchestra and the choir are first class. The musicians in Prague are getting better and better every year.
Thanks everyone involved in this incredible release especially Aaron Purvis for orchestrating the whole score just by listening to it within the TV show. Amazing indeed.

That "soundtrack album" you're referring to (which had TWO different back covers) was a rerecording itself.

Listened to CD #1. Wow. All parts excellent. Those sopranos are out of this world ...

My acquisition of scores has slowed to a trickle these days but with releases as good as this it doesn't feel like a loss.

I have listened to the complete QB VII once so far, and it truly is a wonderful recording. I do own the original QV VII LP, but while I enjoyed the LP for what it was, the complete score has much to offer.

Wonderful. And I for one am very, very happy that there are companies out there who produce such splendid recordings of classic film scores.

I have listened to the complete QB VII once so far, and it truly is a wonderful recording. I do own the original QV VII LP, but have never much listened to it, indeed, while I enjoyed the themes, the LP was edited as a suite, there was no dramatic flow to the music. That sure changes on the re-recording of the entire score.
Wonderful. And I for one am very, very happy that there are companies out there who produce such splendid recordings of classic film scores.

And let's not overlook the painstaking effort and dedication it took to reconstruct the score by ear!

Both QB VII as well as Tadlow's Salamander have been nominated for a 2013 International Film Music Critics Award in the category Best Archival Release of an Existing Score.

I have not listened to "QBVII" in a while, and I was thrilled once more. It has the type of sound that I love, loud and dynamic, and the music is gorgeous beyond belief.

My chief complaint on the new Rozsa on Chandos is the wide dynamic range sound, either to soft or to loud. None of the music on this CD is loud and dynamic and none of it sounds great or realistic- just Dull.

Buy it Henry! I'm not exaggerating when I say it could very well be Goldsmith's greatest achievement!

Strange to hear someone complain about too much dynamic range, rather than not enough. That's usually only a problem when listening in a car. Perhaps you could run a compressor over the tracks.

JamesFitz, you da man. One thing. I've listened and relistened to the last track from the website. Comparing it to JG's own original recording from the QB VII teleplay, there is a stylistic difference. The choral vocals have a much coarser rendering in the original, as if the singers are much closer to the wire. And I suspect there were fewer singers all told, performing that powerfully haunting ode to The Holocaust.

The vocals on the new recording don't have that tone. There are probably more singers giving their all in the recounting, which is much more smooth in the telling. Don't get me wrong. The rerecording has it's own sense of power and beauty and the fact I keep going back to it means I'll very probably get it before it deservedly goes OP. But there is that difference.

For those who have never seen the television miniseries QBVII, nor heard the score within the context of the visual, it is available online:

Yes. of course there is a difference. The original recording was a smaller Italian choir singing in Aramaic ... for the new recording we had a larger Czech choir singing in Aramaic. So bound to be some differences .... the main things I was concerned with was getting the passion from the choir...along with good pronunciation.

You certainly picked the right cue for the demo, JamesFitz. That one gets me every time.

Three minor complaints:

"A New Life" is actually a rerecording of the version from the original album (which itself was a rerecording) which had the chants that were not heard in the film.

"Main Title Pt. 2" has an accordion at the beginning, which was never heard in the film.

And "Jadwiga Relived" is another rerecording of the alternate take that was on the Intrada C.D., since the percussion that comes after the opening chorus was never heard in the film.

Apparently, they didn't know that the rerecording was a tad different than the soundtrack heard in the film.

Otherwise, a magnificent rerecording.

Superlative indeed!

And with "The Salamander", too, simply two unexpected Jerry Goldsmith albums once seemingly impossible.

Listening to this at the moment... it's very nice, but there sure are a lot of NOTES missing from the score! Why is that?

I still need to check that one out.

It's not even a film score, it's a television score, which make it even more remarkable!

Why? Would you assume Goldsmith would lose his talent when composing for a smaller screen?

I think he or she is just very excited and in love with the music. I know what that feels like, and this CD certainly is worthy of that imo.
