Know here in the States as "The Fearless Vampire Killers," Roman Polanski's cult favorite from 1967 is finally out on Blu-ray in France, of course, but it's All-Region and comes in a steelbook.

I just got an email notice from Amazon France that my pre-order is shipping, and just in time for what looks like a very snowy winter.

I'm not expecting it to look fully restored, as I doubt Warners thinks it'll sell enough to warrent the expensive, but I have seen an HD transfer on HDNetMovies a few years ago. It was the same element used for the Warner DVD release from 2004, which was okay except for a bit too many white speckles, but in 1080i, so it was somewhat sharper. I'm hoping a bit more digital work has been done to clean it up a bit, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I ordered it because I don't see Warners releasing it here for some time yet. I also wanted to mention that French subtitles are removeable with this BD.

I have it now. It is the same element from the DVD, which means the same awful and incorrect brown color from what is a faded internegative from a decade ago. That's the biggest problem. It's of course sharper than the DVD, but it's a huge disappointment - and it's 1080i and 25fps. Oops.

I'm gonna put this one on my own personal Twilight Time wish list, together with 1941 ...

You'll be wishing for a long time, I'm afraid. TT doesn't do Warners, I believe.

No, I'm afraid TFVK will never get the respect it deserves, which these days means it'll get about as much respect as Roman Polanski gets in some quarters.

There's a joke that can be made about hindquarters now -- but I'm not going there. wink

What a bummer. But I'd get it if it shows up on these shores. Thanks for the update.
Tess comes out in February courtesy of Criterion. This will have to do for now.
If it's as good as their release of Rosemary's Baby, I'll be fine.
