Also, any word, in the slightest, on news that an expanded Rich Man Poor Man may be released? One of his wondrous TV show scores which won him an Emmy Award as you Alex fans know. I own the current RMPM & have always been dismayed that SO MUCH of the music written for that stunning mini-series was ignored. And a loud boo-hiss to Hellywood for ignoring his ouvre through the years but what can one expect from politically driven "Academy"? :-/ oh well! at least a lifetime achievement for this great gentle man & his genius. (maybe within the next 100 from Kritzerland?) Unreleased Alex North from the 1970s: 1) WILLARD, 2) POCKET MONEY, 3) ONCE UPON A SCOUNDREL, 4) SHANKS, 5) THE PASSOVER PLOT, 6) THE WORD (TV movie) & 7) WISE BLOOD. (La La Land? ... Perserverance? ... Quartet?... new Norwegian label? ...) *an update bump* "... there's been 2 of these title released since I typed this! Kritzerland did HOT SPELL for us, and Quartet was indeed one of the above-named labels to fill one of the gaps in '70s North discography with their release of SHANKS. What unreleased North is next ... I wonder?" Sorry that I have no inside information on any (if any) upcoming North albums, but I'm grateful to meet (electronically) an Alex North fan whom I don't recall ever chatting with before here @ FSM. Reading your profile, AveD, I see that Alex North is listed first within the favorite composers section (and that you are female). Could this be a 'first'? I have been a film music fan since a teen in the niftyfifties. Ancient. I used to collect compilation albums (vinyls) of movie themes because soundtracks weren't produced then. Only until after Rozsa's Ben-Hur did TPTB learn the lucrative business of soundtrack albums. I am NOT a movie fan. I am a movie music fan. When I sit down to watch any film its the music that grabs me first. I won't go into the horror of Inception as not to offend but a big eyeroll on my part on that unique film but drenched in music - no respite except for 10 seconds, perhaps. I was almost getting frantic in the theater. Spoiled the whole film for me. oh well, I digress there. I love film music but do not collect soundtracks. I've been an Alex North fan since I first heard his TV theme for Playhouse 90. Rich Man Poor Man knocked me out especially the jazz cue for Tom. A stunning mini-series & if not seen, it is available on Netflix now. I loved reading his biography learning that he was a very sentimental man with great feeling & concern for all he undertook. His life work is immense - surpassing everyone - but do you think "they" would ever release a great deal of it? no. No $ in it because simply there are not enough North fans to speak up & demand it. yep, Alex North is "da boss" for me but my profile shows I do have others. Logically, there would have had to be a re-recording of the score to cue it into the TV film, right? The La La Land is exceptional for sound quality and presentation. It's amazing to me that both it and Cleopatra over at Varese are still available. The highlights of the score have remained the same with me from familiarisation with the film and also as a stand alone listening experience. It is in North's exuberant symphonic style (think RAINMAKER, with hints of the heroic elements in SPARTACUS). There also is a very moving sequence, re-used for Dorothy McGuire's death scene in RICH MAN, POOR MAN.
