Hey, have you guys heard the music Zimmer wrote for the AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2 website?

It's really bold and melodic, especially the trumpet line. For all those who disliked MAN OF STEEL (I'm not one, btw), this one is more conventional and should please fans of the musical genre.

By the way, I welcome all opinions on the music, but I ask everyone to present their viewpoints constructively and with respect. Thank you.

It's a nice cue. But a strange one.

I like the trumpet-line. I have a hard time seeing Spider-Man with it. Spidey is basically a sort of anti-hero, a loser with super powers -- this sounds like it belongs to a super beefed, well-laurated and much praised hero.

As a matter of fact, it reminds me of something from a 80-ies cd with production music, with modern synth layers and drums. Probably fitting for a bumper on a radio show, but I can't put Spider-Man on it yet.

Is it just me or does the trumpet writing sound like what James Horner wrote for Apollo 13?

He's channeling Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man and I think it sounds really interesting. Better this than a 2 note ostinato. Really too early to make any serious observations but I like the direction he's headed in. I think the only thing I'd prefer is on that last bar or so instead of repeating the trumpet line with 8th notes a 3 against 2 would have been slightly more interesting but that's my own personal taste.

Did we need another topic for this already? Your clip's already been discussed here: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?pageID=1&forumID=1&threadID=97643&archive=0

Oops, I missed that one. Guess because I searched for 'spiderman' instead of 'spider-man'. Sorry. I've been 'out-Thored'. smile

Sounds like EMERSON LAKE AND PALMER's version of "Fanfare For The Common Man". :/

Now, this one I like.

The trailer music is generic, though.

What? How could Copeland rip of Horner's Apollo 13 theme? Come on, man!

Anyway, I thought the trumpet line did sound very heroic. I enjoy what I hear there. It makes sense, because from the ends of the last film and the latest trailer, Spidey does seem to be more publicly known as a hero (rescuing that cop car and stuff).

- A minor note - could the thread name be changed so it is spelled "Spider-Man"? That's typically how his name is spelled and how I (and probably others) search for the thread in the search bar. Thanks!

Done. I've always written it 'Spiderman' and wasn't aware that the hyphenated spelling was the correct one.

I have a lot of respect for Hans Zimmer as a person and business man. He has made quite a name for himself, and in a sense has changed how films are scored. Is it all Zimmer's doing ? Of course not, but he has played a big roll. Budget, cost, many things have played a role. As a film composer I am neither a lover or a hater of Hans Zimmer. Every once in a while something like The Lone Ranger and Sherlock Holmes comes from his pen (and ghost writers) but as a whole I am not a fan of his output. I do love King Arthur and Crimson Tide, but there is just nothing like a real orchestra and themes. That is me. I am hoping the pendulum swings back again like it did back in the 70's when Star Wars came out. Personally, I wish Horner had been invited back (if he wanted to do it) but as with everything else, I will form a final opinion of what Hans Zimmer does for Spiderman 2 after I hear a final product. The clip seems ok, but nothing outstanding IMHO.

The theme is ok, but there already was a great one in the first Amazing Spider-Man IMO. I personally fail to see why he'd need to have a new one and miss that sense of continuity already...

I haven't seen the trailer or heard the music to it yet, but I agree with Francis. The Horner score was fine as is for this reboot franchise. Wish Horner would've stayed to develop and broaden his themes. With that said I'm keeping an open mind of Zimmer's score. The approach he's taking with this one has me curious.

Will an orchestra be used or drums and guitar? Curious

Zimmer uses a real orchestra and themes in a lot of his scores.

A shame he dubs it so heavily with synths, you'd swear it was all electronic

I like the use of "supposedly." They still have time to fit in about 5 more trailers before the movie finally comes out.
