THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3---Sony Pictures announced the sequel will be written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner and will premiere on June 10, 2016. Sony also announced the spin-off movies VENOM and THE SINISTER SIX. VENOM will be written by Kurtzman, Orci and Ed Solomon. THE SINISTER SIX will be written by Drew Goddard who also may direct.

MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS---Ridley Scott/20th Century Fox remake movie underway based on the 1934 Agatha Christie novel. The original 1974 Sidney Lumet movie starred Albert Finney, Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman and Lauren Bacall.

CHILD 44---new photo of Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman in this movie set in the 1950s Soviet Union in which a disgraced detective pursues a serial killer who preys on children.

GODS OF EGYPT---Australian model Courtney Eaton will play the female lead/slave girl in this movie also starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (GAME OF THRONES) as Horus, Egyptian god of the sky, seeks revenge for the death of his father, Osiris, god of the dead. George Miller (MAD MAX) is the director.

THE BASTARD EXECUTIONER---FX pilot from Kurt Sutter (SONS OF ANARCHY) about "a warrior knight in King Edward III’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. But when that violence finds him again he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all."

DOCTOR WHO---Steven Moffat commented on Matt Smith's final words as Doctor Who in the Christmas special, "I didn’t think I would go that way, but a couple of months before I wrote it I did say to Mark (Gatiss) that I thought I knew what his last moment would be. And indeed his last line. But if it didn’t fit the scene I wouldn’t crowbar it in. I’ve had the vague storyline in place for a long while." The special will have a "fair bit " of nudity.

ENORMOUS---web series underway based on the comic book in which an ecological disaster unleashes enormous monsters on mankind.

THE DRUMMER--the Dennis Wilson/The Beach Boys biomovie was cancelled after Aaron Eckhart left due to schedule problems.

There was nobody talented and funny available?

Now there`s a perfect example of a reboot being a bad idea. Frank Drebin is Leslie Nielsen. If you want to do new Naked Gun movies, great, fine, just introduce another bumbling detective with the same sort of pedigree as Drebin. Don`t make him Drebin!

I rhetorically ask why studios seem to insist on venturing to *replace* iconic actors in their signature roles. Unwise. And unnecessary, in this case.

Child 44, I wonder... could be based on the infamous Red Ripper, Andrei Chikatilo. Interested.

Yep, worked well for the Pink Panther right? Nope!

And where, pray tell, will they ever get a cast comparable to the all-starry set of the original MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS?

Crazy idea...

Yes. Worst idea since the not so brilliant notion of Steve Martin attempting to fill Peter Seller's shoes. wink

THE NAKED GUN doesn't need rebooted.

Not sure I'm up for another "MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS", at least not made by Hollywood.

I understand that the Poirot continuum has done the mileage on the TV circuit, where it has established itself as part of mainstream pop for many a year. It never raised my eyebrow as much as this announcement has.

It is very hard to see other people in the roles, for me

Joan Hickson was Miss Marple
Jeremy Brett was Sherlock Holmes
David Suchet is Hercule Poirot

I can't think of anyone I'd particularly like to see tackle the roles out of the current crop of actors.

Maybe Helen Mirren as Marple.

Indeed, though I'd put making a live action Mr Magoo movie ahead of that. Particularly putting Leslie Nielsen in it.

For me, Margaret Rutherford will always be Miss Marple.

Someone - it might've been at the AV Club - suggested a while back that, if they made a NAKED GUN reboot, they should get Jon Hamm. He plays it straight like Nielsen, that's not only a good idea, but a license to print money.

This...less so.

Maybe no more Helen Mirren for a while.
