Now that I have the Blue Box set is there any reason for me to keep my Rhino Records release of Superman from 2000?
There might be a version of 'Can You Read My Mind' on the Rhino album that is not in the Blue Box, but I think it was created for the Rhino album. The Rhino liner notes will tell you for sure.

Yep, keep the Rhino album!
It is the "Alternate" version of Can You Read My Mind.
It is featured without the Margot Kidder Vocal.
The Blue Box features the same cue..... but - alas - while it does omit the Margot Kidder Vocal - it enhances the track by overlaying the String Section, which is still Super - Dooper - Fantastic!
However - the Rhino album is still considered "special" because it does not include those strings, and keeps the music sounding more pop oriented in that 70s style which I do prefer over todays demographics.
The Rhino album has a track that combines the pop instrumental with Kidder's spoken-word vocal.
That was created just for the Rhino album, yes?
The Blue Box says there was a full pop-version planned (with Kidder fully singing?) and not recorded. I think this is Rhino's 'what if' track.
The Blue Box contains 5 tracks of Can You Read My Mind:
-The full Flying Sequence without vocals
-The Film and Album versions of Kidder's spoken-word vocal.
-A pop version without vocals (the fully sung version was never completed), and a pop version with strings carrying the melody.
I believe this covers everything conceived, recorded, and/or released at the time.
I held onto my Rhino album for a time, but traded it when I finally decided the Blue Box had it covered.
I don't quite understand the dislike for the song. It's a lovely Briscusse lyric rather well performed by Kidder.
Anyway, now Kidder fans and non-fans alike are covered with the many versions provided by Rhino and FSM.

I still have my Warner CD. No good reason for that, considering the Rhino album is one of the great expanded re-releases of all time. Should have kept my Rhino Album, too.

Me too.
And I keep the Warner CD for the original presentation.
And I also really enjoy the Debney re-recording, so that stays too!
Check and double check. The Rhino booklet is an especially nice one, oversized and glossy, with ample text analysis and photos. It came in an outer sleeve because it wouldn't fit in the jewel box. Later runs of the Rhino set omitted the sleeve and the booklet altogether. I'm glad I bought the early edition that came with all the goods.
The Debney/Varese booklet has a gorgeous Bob Peak painting of Clark Kent on the back. I can't see parting with it, even if the Blue Box is the one I play now.
