Yes, another list thread! If you could pick just one release this year, (try) what would it be?
I know I'll be in the minority here picking an animated score, but I'm going with Intrada's Tinkerbell by Joel McNeely. Even with so many great releases in November and December Tinkerbell was by far my favorite purchase of the year. The themes are beautiful and lyrical, and the score always puts me in a good mood. It's been in constant rotation.

Difficult to choose one but perhaps I would vote for this album:

Escape from Alcatraz / Hell is for Heroes (Fielding/Rosenman)

Very courageous by Intrada to release this, especially in terms of Fielding's not very accessible use of 'musique concrete' !

I bought only a few titles this year. La La Land is the clear winner and I'd say True Grit was the greatest surprise of the year.

LA LA LAND

The Fury
The Challenge
True Grit - Best of the Year
Lethal Weapon

KRITZERLAND

Poltergeist 2

INTRADA

Cocoon

VARESE

The Abyss - coming out in January, so this is 2014 really

First Love (John Barry) La La Land

A mainly unused Barry score for an obscure 1977 movie. Not many Barry fans could see this one coming. Gorgeous themes, beautifully crafted. Everything I love about Barry's work.

Would love to see Year Of The Comet and 'Goodbye Lover' in 2014!

Runners up
Demy/Legrand Box set Universal France
True Grit (Bernstein) La La Land
The Days Of Wine And Roses (Mancini) Intrada

For me, it's definitely The Only Game In Town from Kritzerland. It's been a Holy Grail for me since I first saw the film.

My most favored is The Carpetbaggers, followed closely by Intrada's Buck Rogers and Joe Kidd albums.

So many releases...
I really need to have complete release-list - or I may missed something and my answer will not be trustable wink
Of course, as John Barry fan I can say First Love.
But there was so many good CDs, that I really afraid, that I can forget something...

Probably LLL's DS9 set, although Quartet may have it beat depending on what THE BEASTMASTER sounds like.

My top five releases of the year are four OSTs and an expansion:

Evil Dead
The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug
Oz the Great and Powerful
Iron Man 3

Black Beauty (expansion)

I know the OP indicates that we should pick just one, so I'll go with Black Beauty smile

I think it is a tie between Dave and Wyatt Earp both expanded releases by La La Land. Some great scores released this year but these two really stick out.

Wyatt Earp would be my runner up.

Best release of a new score in 2013 = Anthony Gonzalez and Joseph Trapanese's OBLIVION

Best release of an old score in 2013 = Harry Sukman's SALEM'S LOT released by Intrada

And of course: Blue Underground's release of Jay Chattaway's MANIAC COP 2.

Label of the year goes to LaLaLand,
for releases like,
THE WARRIORS,
DAY OF THE DEAD,
DAYS OF THUNDER,
I' THE JURY

Don't have every CD released this year, but if I had to pick one:

La La's release of Shirley Walker's WILLARD. Fantastic music, impeccably packaged.
