Does anyone know the state of the original recordings of the Star Wars trilogy? If LLL, Intrada, Varese, or whoever was ever given the go ahead to make “THE ULTIMATE STAR WARS SET(tm)”, could they? (I can dream, right?) Or are the sources too far gone?

The original releases, the re-releases, the special releases, the new recordings of original releases, the new recordings of re-releases, the new recordings of special releases ... Can't you people EVER think outside the box?????????? Instead of the same old thing with minor changes that nobody gives a crap about - NEW music, or obscure music getting the release they deserve - or indeed ANY kind of release???! Honestly! Welcome to the land of no imagination!

BTW I too would be very interested in a profound answer to the original question!

Welcome to the land of no imagination! I agree. There is no need for any other releases of the original trilogy scores. They are fine the way they are. Would still like proper complete editions of Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The sith though.

I think they are in California, but don't quote me on that. MV

why not use your imagination and start threads about scores you think are worthy to discuss or just say anything positive at all for a change? I'm doing that all the time, you're jst not reading the respective threads. Instead you're reading this one, concerned entirely with a line of scores exhausted completely, entirely. And yes, I'm aware of the apparent irony. It's just that the forces of light have to be present in places of darkness to tell some people that they live in the darkness.

If hi-res digital audio had caught on, I'm sure we'd already have seen SACD or Blu-Ray audio versions of the original trilogy scores. But let's be honest. These scores are as close to "orchestral pop" as it gets. When format preferences shift in a mass way, these scores will undeniably, absolutely be there. My question: Have the tapes been baked yet?

And thank god theres only one of you. I honestly couldn't handle more than that. That you, LeHah, can't EVER think outside the box, is no surprise to me, or tit should be to anyone.

Whoever is ranting is apparently on my ignore list, so it’s a bit like reading from ghosts. To those that gave serious answers, thank you. MV, obviously this means you’re working on Star Wars now, right? It is interesting that I don’t feel like Star Wars is “settled” like I do the Star Trek scores. Or Lord of the Rings. OTOH, what other series are THAT close to perfect? Bond isn't. Potter certainly isn't. I gather The Matrix is gaining.
