LAKESHORE RECORDS PRESENTS

EXPECTING — ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK

Featuring Original Music Composed by Mark Kilian

(December 2, 2013– Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the EXPECTING – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and Amazon On Demand on December 10, 2013. Mark Kilian (Pitch Perfect, Rendition) composed the original music.

“In my initial discussions with director Jessie McCormack and producer/editor Kathryn Himoff,” said Kilian, “we decided that what this movie needed was a simple and intimate warmth. Childlike in a way.”

Born and raised in South Africa, Mark Kilian came to the U.S. to pursue a career in film scoring in 1994. His academic life in his native country (Masters Degree in composition) and a very active performing career (as a pianist who played with people like Darius Brubeck, Shirley Bassey, Airto Moreira and Ladysmith Black Mambazo) prepared him for his enrollment into USC’s Film Scoring program. Upon completion he was hired by film composer Christopher Young as an assistant and then joined Machine Head in Venice where he wrote music for countless TV commercials for companies like Apple, Budweiser, American Express and Toyota.

Mark’s first feature film Lovergirl was scored in 1997 and since then he has written scores for a wide variety of films including Traitor, Rendition, Before the Rains and Tsotsi which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2006. Some of his recent films include Pitch Perfect, Bless Me Ultima, John Carpenter’s The Ward, and HBO’s 41, a portrait of George H.W. Bush. His television works include ABC’s Killer Women, Daybreak, and Don’t Trust the B—- In Apartment 23. He has recorded three albums under the name ‘The Gravy Street’ and two albums with Electronic outfit Ape Quartet.

After years of struggling to conceive with her husband, Lizzie (Radha Mitchell) has given up hope of having a baby on her own. But when her best friend Andie (Michelle Monaghan) finds herself pregnant after a one-night stand, an unexpected solution arises: Andie offers to have the baby and give it to Lizzie. The couple agrees to the plan, on one condition: Andie must move in with them for the duration of the pregnancy. But can the women’s friendship survive until birth? Jessie McCormack’s debut is a refreshingly candid comedy about planning ahead for life’s unexpected detours.

“As we see the main character Lizzie (Radha Mitchell) playing the ukelele a few times on screen we thought keeping that flavor and sentiment alive in the score would help tie all these characters and their journeys together,” described Kilian. “So I packed my car full with guitars, ukeleles and other weird and wonderful string instruments and drove down to my house in Mexico where I wrote all the main themes and ideas over the course of a few weeks. Back in Los Angeles I recorded and produced the score with the help of some fantastic musicians and the wonderful Bonnie Piesse on vocals. I also had my friend and amazing pianist Paul Hepker help arrange and play the Bach like pieces which are based on my main melodies in the score.”

Tribeca Films presents EXPECTING, is currently available on VOD nationwide and through major digital platforms and will be in theaters in limited release on December 6, 2013. The EXPECTING – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be available digitally and via Amazon on Demand on December 17, 2013.
