Yeah, I know.

But I decided that this release deserved it's own thread.

I'm a big Jarre fan but for some reason that I can't explain I have never bought this score before. Naturally I'll be getting the Quartet release!

It's a great score. One of my favourite Jarre.

I have the DRG release. I'm not sure how much I need this expanded release however.

I was beginning to lament the paucity of titles attracting my interest. I think TRUE GRIT and this will make a great cure for the winter blahs.

Playing this again, and "alternates" non-controversy aside (keep the original
CD...), this is fantastic.

Did anyone catch there are soprano voices in the Temple cue!?!??!
I sure didn't - and don't recall it being noted anywhere by anyone ever.

5 stars, a must have!

I suggest you to buy it, the sound is fantastic, very much better than DRG release

So which are the alternates? The takes on the Quartet or those on the original Capitol CD? I'd rather not keep both unless I absolutely have to.

I agree with you, a 5 stars score indeed!
Even in the old Capitol CD I realized the soprano voice, sure not so clear like now, also I remember to read about it in a Maurice Jarre's interview.

From the original Quartet release thread:
http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?pageID=2&forumID=1&threadID=100421&archive=0

- Merry Goldsmith says:
"Expectations" seems to be an alternate version. On the Quartet-CD, "Expectations" is missing the middle section from 1:05 to 1:52 which was on the old Capitol-CD. Has anybody found this section in other tracks of the Quartet release? The ending of the track is also different. The passage starting at 2:37 on the Capitol-CD comes later on the Quartet-CD and is shorter there

-Adilson says:
Hearing this new A PASSAGE TO INDIA I realized that some tracks that already had on the old CD is a little different, the time is a little different in special in "The Temple", "Kashmir" and seems to be another recording, someone realized it ?

Personally, I had the old Capitol CD but am only keeping it for posterity. The Quartet is the
one to play.
I liked to think I was familiar enough with the score, and these changes didn't exactly stand out for me - I still want to think the sound enhancement is so signifcant that hearing it anew is inspiring madness ;-)
But since Merry cites times, I was probably wrong about my initial thoughts on the new mix being so clear, in lieu of alternates being heard here.
As for 'Will the real cue stand up please?' - can't say, never have or probably will see the film.
