I've just had my confirmation that The Beastmaster has been sent and should be with me tomorrow or Monday! It will be my first new CD of 2014 and even though I have the first issue of the score (the composer promo one with the Beauty & the Beast score on it too), I look forward to this new expanded edition in all it's BSG glory!!
Hearing this new A PASSAGE TO INDIA I realized that some tracks that already had on the old CD is a little different, the time is a little different in special in "The Temple", "Kashmir" and seems to be another recording, someone realized it ?

Having just received my copy of the new expanded complete recording of Jarre's A PASSAGE TO INDIA- (no thanks to the customs for the delay in delivery)
Anyways, listening to this new presentation of Jarre's Oscar winning score is a revelation. There is a superb jump in the sound quality making it a dynamic listening experience. Also the chronological sequencing of the music makes it an entirely different listening experience and which aptly transports you back in the time of the British Raj. The sound mastering is amazing and not to mention the CTS sound recording under the hands of Richard 'Dick' Lewzey.
I must emphasis the new quality is stunning! The liner notes are very insightful and detailed. I remember falling in love with the score back in the days when Jarre a recorded a suite of this in his tribute to David Lean in a concert. I have always been mesmerized by the almost anachronistic tone of the score and its dual nature of its themes with its very little use of authentic Indian music instrumentation. (I must also add that No one has come so close to emulate ethnic sound of its subject than Mr. Jarre in his scores whether its Arabic or Indian) Another joy is the source band cues very much part of the British Raj is captured in a very jaunty tongue in check style.
I strongly recommend this limited release to all. I assure you-even if you don't like Jarre that much- this one will surprise you!
Of the recent trend of re-issues and expansions-I believe this one easily stands as the best produced restoration.
Quartet Records and James Fitzpatrick have rescued this gem and I must say-hats off to them. Bravo!
They are very long, okay, but very insightful? I'm missing some useful information. Why are some tracks different to the original CD?
I think they have remixed a few cues together as well as added more. James would be best to answer. The high quality probably is the reason why it sounds brand new. The liner notes give insight to the orchestration and the performances as well which I found insightful.
Passage to India- Listening now & I think I agree with Amer - not alternate takes but the remastering is Very well done, bringing out new details. Possibly the old CD was at the wrong speed as well? A must have for the sound alone & DeWalds notes are typically excellent. SAE was out of stock briefly so I have a feeling this won't be around long...
"Expectations" seems to be an alternate version. On the Quartet-CD, "Expectations" is missing the middle section from 1:05 to 1:52 which was on the old Capitol-CD. Has anybody found this section in other tracks of the Quartet release? The ending of the track is also different. The passage starting at 2:37 on the Capitol-CD comes later on the Quartet-CD and is shorter there.
