Surprising news today, as the Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu -- known for films such as AMORES PERROS, 21 GRAMS and BABEL -- is negotiating to direct a new adaptation of Kipling's legendary THE JUNGLE BOOK.

Personally, I think it's an excellent choice -- a new spin on the book that avoids the trademark "Disney"-isms.

Likewise, I'm excited about what Santaolalla can do, should Innaritu go for his regular collaborator. I'm sure it will be interesting -- more minimal with various ethnic instruments, I would presume.

Hope it gets made!
