One of my favorite Horner scores of the 1980s. Connery also won a BAFTA for Best Actor, and the film would have done much better at the domestic box office if the marketing was better. Connery hated the original one-sheet poster that had him posing like a Medieval James Bond holding his spectacles rather than a gun with cartoonish images of the characters drawn around the poster. William of Baskerville was the enlightened Franciscan who fought against ignorance and fear, and it was marketed as something entirely different.
