Why is there no ROCKY set? It's popular music which would sell very well. We got ROCKY IV, where are the others? I don't mean to harp on this, but it's very frustrating to me.

The problem has been explained several times, including by Roger Feigelson of Intrada.

The rights are held all over the place. And, unlike 99% of other soundtracks, there are elements of these soundtracks that actually sold (and, to some lesser degree, still sell). So those rights-holders aren't eager to give them up.

Given that "Rocky" actually has less music than is on the CD, it's not a prime candidate for expansion.

If I were you, henry, I would put it out of your head. Miracles do happen, and maybe after years, some label will make this happen, and you'll be ecstatic. But don't assume it's in the works, because there's every indication that it isn't.

I think your better bet would be to hope for releases of the unreleased scores. There are all sorts of popular series with popular themes that don't have box sets. "Pink Panther," "James Bond," and on and on.

Releases of the unreleased scores would be great, but it doesn't look like that will happen either.

Is the only reason you think that won't happen the fact that it hasn't happened yet? Because that's true of every score before it's released.

Boxset smoxset, I find it a crime that the new version of the Rocky theme from 'Rocky Balboa' isn't on any soundtrack release yet! Along with most of Balboa's cues. I want a Rocky Balboa release and I want it now!!!! wink

Thankfully, it is "clean" in the end credits...but yeah, agreed...

I'm with you on that, Henry. And I'm sure the labels would love to release them. It's just one of those things where we'll have to wait and see, but at the same time not really expect anything.

I think we must continure to enjoy what we have of the Rocky scores and hope that maybe one day we will get a box set of all the scores done in the best way possible. Clearly this isn't going to happen any time soon.

Yeah. Rocky music fell into the crack where there's too much commercial value to hand over to a boutique label, but not enough to get the big companies moving on a C&C project. Of course, the Star Trek films somehow escaped from there...

I've long loved the music of Rocky and Bullwinkle, and would love to have a set.

I would love to have a set as well. I don't care for the version of Gonna Fly Now on Rocky II. It's NOTHING like the version in the movie, and the one in the movie is significantly (enough) different than the one on the first movie's soundtrack that it warrants its own release.

And the fact that no score release exists at all for Rocky V and Rocky Balboa is a thorn in my side. Yes, I know a lot of the score is the same songs from existing films but the arrangements are different enough that I would love to have them released.

Unfortunately, all we can do is take Shiffy's advice and put it out of our heads until one day the planets are aligned, and it happens.

Of course, it doesn't hurt to remind the labels every now and then that its something we are interested in. I just can't get my hopes up.

I never expected Friday the 13th to happen so Rocky isn't exactly down for the count yet.

Same with Bond and Midnight Cowboy.

I don't think Star Trek soundtrack albums were that big in terms of commercial appeal. They are a bit more niche I think.

I just dont think theres enough variety in the Rocky series to justify a mammoth box set.

GOLDSMITHDAKING, I'm sorry if I offended you or anyone else, I did not mean to, but I do not think your post was necessary. Granted, I do ask for a ROCKY set too much, but It's not like I was mean to a fellow FSM member. If someone else asked for a title all the time I certainly wouldn't care, more power to them. If asking for a ROCKY set is the worst thing I do here I'm doing pretty well.

Nobody asked for a mammoth box set, I'm sure some of the scores could fit on one disc and they did it for Conti's Karate Kid and the current Lethal Weapon set is another iconic franchise boxset, so why not for Rocky? If it wasn't due to rights issues, I'm sure this set would have existed a long time ago.
