Just watched the wonderful blu-ray of Blood and Sand last night. The use of Technicolor is amazing.
Unusually, the commentary is not by one of regular types (directors, actors, screenwriter, etc.) but a cinematographer: Richard Crudo, President of the American Society of Cinematographers a few years ago. He describes the look of the film as painterly, comparing some scenes to the works of
Velasquez. But enough about the film's look. The score by Alfred Newman is perfect, with that
effective Spanish flavor. Love the source cues including songs, solo guitar and flamenco. Has any of it ever appeared on LP or CD?

One of Stanley Black's releases on Vocalion label features a good 7-minute suite, though some of the music is traditional as well as Newman's. Also has some bullfight crowd effects, which is a pity.
It's a 2CD set called "Film Spectacular Vols 5 & 6" (CDLK 4328).
Unfortunately, I just checked the Vocalion site and it appears to be out of print.

That's good... Amazon sharks are asking a minimum of $200 for it!

Thanks for the reply.
I guess I'll have to be happy listening to the score in the film itself, at least for now.
Too bad an isolated score track wasn't an extra on the blu-ray.

Hopefully, it's another Newman Kritzerland might be able to get hold of one day... and Mask of Zorro too.
