India bowled out for 151. Their batsmen could offer nothing. 2-0 to South Africa now, one Test to play. India's attempt to prove they are world class by winning an away series falls at the first hurdle. Feeble.

The England groundsmen know what pitches to prepare in the summer now.

Nice to see Jonny top score and Joe carry his bat. Not as good as the red/pink ball game, though...

Bloody Hell! This thread is longer than a Test Match!

Never seen the appeal of cricket myself?

I think what put me off it was being forced to play it at school.....Full Whites, the lot!

What finally put me RIGHT off it was - going out to bat one day, facing the first ball......
and waking up, in the Pavillion!

Apparently, I was out for ages.

No, thank-you. Give me a safe game, like Ice Hockey, or Polo.

Cracking end to the third ODI. I only saw it from just after Steve Smith’s controversial dismissal, but it could have gone either way. Great bowling from Wood and Rashid and a dangerous knock from Stoinis, a player I hadn’t seen before but clearly a good one day player.

Great finish to the ODIs, 4-1 to England thanks to a very professional tightening of the screw in the last 10 or 12 overs. A couple of dropped catches, both fairly easy, could have swung it towards the Aussies but Tom Curran came up with a couple of snorters to see them off.

Just the 20s to go!

With England kicking off (ahem) their Test tour in New Zealand tonight, it's time to get going in this thread again.

So what's been going on in the last couple of months since England were hammered 4-0 down under?

England hammered Australia 1-4 in the ODI series in their own backyard.
But they were well beaten in the bilateral 20/20 series with Australia and New Zealand.

England then played a competitive ODI series in New Zealand which they won 2-3. Our 50 over team is really hitting form in 2018.

Elsewhere, South Africa won a closely fought contest with India in Tests 2-1. India don't usually travel well, but in this series their bowling was very competitive in foreign conditions - a warning for England when India arrive on our shores this summer. Their batsmen struggled on fast, bouncy pitches, which was ultimately the difference.

South Africa are currently in the middle of a cracking series against Australia. Plenty of words exchanged on the pitch, with incidents involving Warner and Rabada. The latter is on fire, and has just escaped a two-test ban for on-field behaviour in the Second Test, which was won by him and AB De Villiers who returned to form with a cracking century. The score is 1-1 with two Tests to play.

And finally, Ben Stokes is in the frame to return to play the First Test at Eden Park tonight. Whether he is fit enough to bowl isn't known yet, but if he is, England's 11 will likely be

Cook, Stoneman, Vince, Root, Malan, Stokes, Bairstow, Ali, Overton/Woakes, Broad, Anderson.

England are keeping faith with Stoneman and Vince despite low scores in the Ashes. If Stokes is fit enough to bowl, he'll take his place in a five man attack that includes the misfiring Stuart Broad. Woakes may share the new ball with Jimmy Anderson.

I've been keeping an eye on the Super Sixes for World Cup Qualification next year. Scotland would have qualified had they beat Ireland on Sunday, but Ireland won to keep slim hopes alive. I watched that game on Sky Sports. We have to play (and beat) Afghanistan next and hope for other results in our favour.

As I already mentioned I'm looking forward to going to our first Test Match against Pakistan in May in Dublin, though it might be a bit of a damp squib if we don't qualify for the World Cup.

Stumps on Day One of the First Test at Eden Park, New Zealand, between England and the hosts. And what a morning... for NZ. England lost the toss and were put in to bat, only to slump to a horrific, diabolical 23/9. Yes, 23/9. Overton came in and scored 33 before England were bowled out for 58, one of their all time classic collapses. In 20 overs. NZ only used two bowlers in the entire innings, with Trent Boult claiming 6/32 and Tim Southee 4/25. They bowled well, but the shot selection by England was reportedly calamitous, and included five ducks. NZ finished Day One on 175/3 with Kane Williamson nearing a century. This Test is over.

Hilarious! I've been saying to anyone willing to listen for some time, that England Test side is rubbish.

23/9? That's astonishingly bad. Can't recall a score as bad as that before.

Bayliss has to go. Keep him for the other formats by all means but not the Test team.

And in other cricket related news, Australia and South Africa start game 3 of their "my dick is bigger than yours" test series.

Can the South Africans goad Davie Warner into losing his cool?

Can the Aussies continue to behave like a bunch of dickheads??

It promises to be a thrilling game

Well now...

In a highly unlikely sequence of results, Zimbabwe lose to UAE (who had previously lost all their games) which means Ireland will play Afghan tomorrow to decide who goes through along with Windies!

SA were sitting pretty at 211/2 but then collapsed to 266/8. Centurion Dean Elgar hanging on at the other end, 121 not out. Pat Cummins was the destroyer, using the old ball to claim four wickets. Stumps on day one.
