I'm not sure if this....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KBvM9faIN4

....is the definitive edition....

but you can clearly tell that the James Horner Composition is not there.

The melody is so different.

Horner's Theme is nice, catchy.... it's got a nice opening motive.... 2 nice shakes - then the saxophone plays this really nice catchy melody, while this one doesn't.

The link I just posted has great saxophone playing etc, but it is not the Horner Composition - is it?

This is why I'm asking, if you can find me an arrangement that is similar to Horner's (in melody) not just big band music.

Thanks. Sorry if I'm being pushy - I don't mean it - but this is the place where we can ask such questions?

Billy May is responsible for these arrangements in the film, if I remember correctly.

I haven't been this excited about a release date in a long time. And I don't even know what unreleased music awaits me! Usually I have an idea what is missing.

It's been so many years since I've seen COCOON I tried renting it last night. It's not available to rent online, only purchase, which sucks. Would love to see the movie again. Even as a kid I recall the music in it being just beautiful.

My first introduction to the music of Cocoon was from my early days of collecting soundtracks (in the late 80s) when it was random luck what you'd find in the music store. I had bought Erich Kunzel's "Star Tracks II" and came across his beautiful rendition of the main theme to Cocoon. I fell in love with it right away. I played it over and over in the summer of 1988. Wonderful times. It was only later that I got my hands on the re-issue of the Cocoon soundtrack and learned how much more there was to it. Very hymnic stuff. So, I am over the moon that Cocoon expanded is finally coming out!

P.S. What time of day does Intrada normally post stuff? I'll make sure to hit the web as soon as it is up!

I keep waiting for the 28th, like everybody else, but would sure like to know what ELSE is on the new "Cocoon" that would justify buying it again. I'll be pissed if it's less Horner than source cues played, say, during the dance sequences. Has anybody seen a list of the tracks and samples???

Well I live in the east coast so pre-ordering, track lists, and samples will be up Monday Oct 28th early evening.

Intrada is always punctual when it comes to listing pre-orders the day b/f.

No reason to be pissed. Intrada will post that track list and those samples before you have an opportunity to buy. You'll know exactly what you'll be buying. I have no recollection of the film (it's been twenty-five years since I've seen it!), but it should be obvious by now that Intrada will put any extant score on this CD.

Yeesh, it's not like you have to make your decision in five minutes.

Schiffy & Terra -- thanks. This is all pretty new to me, and there doesn't seem to be much consistency in the ways that various companies release their titles. For example, long before L-L-L released Korzeniowski's "Romeo And Juliet" for iTunes download I had first heard 1-minute samples of everything and later all the cues in their entirety. And the same for some of the expanded soundtracks. But then other companies may wait until they put them on sale.

But the head sometimes swims, such as my experience with the new CD of "Cocoon" due tomorrow, where I didn't realize that this company's M.O. is to release their samples on the same day the CD goes on sale. I've become a bit lightheaded, at one point thinking I had already ordered "Cocoon" and was waiting to buy "Heaven Can Wait," when in fact it was just the reverse: I had bought "Heaven Can Wait" and was waiting for the release of "Cocoon." And pleased with Tadlow's re-recording of "True Grit" (taking NOTHNG away from L-L-L's wonderful release!), today I bought Tadlow's 2-CD versions of both "Exodus" and "Lawrence of Arabia." I feel like a kid in a candy store.

James Horners COCOON was my first Horner score in my collection. I can never forget the elodies and lryicism in the score. I bought the movie on blu ray and it still shines as av moving 80s movie. Can't wait to order it!
