Much obliged for those links!!!

It's great to hear the film version of "The Landing," which is over a minute longer than the album version.

Great score to a great film. Hurwitz is the real deal.

Excellent 5 minute interview with Hurwitz:

https://deadline.com/video/first-man-justin-hurwitz-damien-chazelle-oscars-interview/

He started writing the music before they shot any of the film, they shot a lot of it to rough recordings of the music, sounds like most of the film was temped with his music too. Interesting stuff. So glad to see a director who values the input of really ASSERTIVE, THEMATIC music.

I could be mistaken, but it sounds like the first minute is a slightly different version of the Tunnel cue that's on the soundtrack...

Have to watch the movie. But on album, the score is...average. Honestly, sounds like a RCP score, and I don't even think it is a great RCP score. Maybe a good one.

Don't really understand the meaning of this quote "sounds like a RCP score".
What parts are we refering to excatly when saying that? Is it a matter of orchestration? General approach? Just interested.

Really liked the score (even if a bit overlong with short cues on album). Memorable both in concept and melody, striking and effective in the movie. "The Landing" is of course a highlight. More like that, please.

Sean Penn is such a method actor he actually learned how to conduct for that featurette.

Sean Penn is such a method actor he actually learned how to conduct for that featurette.

It was crunch time and he still hadn't written that crucial launch cue, so he turned to the music editor and said:

Perhaps I make that exact same face while air-conducting, so I'll cut him some slack...

I bet when he saw the YouTube still image (which you can change, btw), he had himself a real Shanghai Surprise.

I haven't yet watched the movie but this score totally hooked me! This is some real good stuff. It's the first time I hear about Hurwitz.
Actually after checking, I realized I know his other works. I loved "Whiplash" and hated "Lalaland".
