The most amazing thing, listening to the score, is that I can actually remember and tell what parts of the show the music is from! I'm hearing a lot of pushback on Smith. I don't get it. I think she's so effective she's almost too much. The only reason you know she's as crazy as she is is because you are the audience. From the character's perspective she's frighteningly believable. OTOH, we're faced with the same dilemma that hijacked the original series: How do you keep a character like this around? I loved this show so much. I want more, now. I'm only two episodes in and I don't have a clue who this character is, what shes done, what her issues are. You need to set up the story and characters first. I'm sure they get to that, but at this moment in time, shes just creepy and I don't know why. It's bad storytelling. And before anyone says it, no I don't need it all explained up front. But you need a hook, some reason to engage in the character. And of course she's not Doctor Smith at all

They don't tell you everything, nor should they, but you get a good sense of her instability by the time the last episode ends. We already know more about her and what makes her tick than we ever learned about the original Smith, who was never more than "saboteur for hire" at best and "shrieking trouble-making man-child" at worst. I had a great time with this and the music was fabulous. So much effort went into every aspect of this series.

It's GORGEOUS. I loved season 1 and I loved the music but I didn't listen to it by itself very much. I've been listening to this almost non-stop for the last two days. John and Judy is a particular favorite. Seeing Star Wars today, Lost in Space drops next week. Then Doctor Who. Best. Nerd. Christmas. EVER!
