The stereo disc is good, but to loud and the same goes for the mono disc to loud and S/N ratio on both not to good.
I'm very fortunate in that I have a VOLUME control on my stereo system, If it's too loud, turn it down. It works for me.

It's probably worth noting that the 2-disc OST part of this release is available for download. I noticed it on Spotify recently. I dunno if it's lossless, but it IS therefore available separately.
Is it? There are numerous Spartacus albums on Spotify (including one spelled Sparticus), but most of them are the 11-tracks MCA album. The only longer version I can find appears to be the first two discs from the Soundtrack Library b**tl*g release (comparing with the listing on Sountrack Collector's site at http://soundtrackcollector.com/title/2695/Spartacus), minus one track. None of the Varese set's premiere track listings seem to come up on Spotify (eg "Luceria Camp") whereas the titles and times of the SLC b**tl*g correspond entirely.
Erratum. Yes, I checked again, and it's the old SL release. My error.

I wrote this of course in jest, but it happened recently that a second hand copy became available on Amazon for $40 and I snapped it up. It was described as fair condition with some damaged artwork. In the event I couldn't find any damaged artwork, but neither could I find Disc 1 or the DVD. I promptly contacted the seller, who profusely apologised, immediately refunded all my filthy lucre, including postage, and told me to keep what I had. So now I have a set with Discs 2,3 & 4, the "love theme" disc, and the booklet. I've certainly come out ahead, but I'm just not sure how far ahead. The more I play discs 2 & 3 the more I miss the glorious stereo sound of the original presentation. It's somewhat like watching the film in pan & scan. It just seems so cramped.

I've scanned through this thread, and gleaned some of the praise this set deserves.
This project is, yes, "overambitious", but that's the point. Robert Townson was, come hell-or-high-water, oath-bound to deliver this score in the purest form he could deliver it. The extras are certainly not desultory, yet they don't deliver a deeper exploration of the themes and motifs.
That said, the true significance of this set is: (1) It is the most ambitious single-score presentation ever. And as you may have noticed since its release in 2010, the acceptance and purchase of deluxe packages from the monumental cinema classics has increased, due mainly to Lukas Kendall following Townson's lead (or was Townson following Kendall's?).
(2) The original SPARTACUS score is now archived in a format that is now "download ready", awaiting a time when the re-discovery of the film raises demand from new initiates to obtain the score "a-la-carte" or in its entirety.
There's more quality and significance in this package than many realize.

Please advise exactly what this means. Is the complete score actually available in stereo? Since this is just about my favorite score I've purchase every conceivable version out there including all the boots and well as legitimate releases.
Unfortunately, Paul, "download ready" does not equate to "download available".
I meant that, though the financial incentive to put the stereo tracks online doesn't yet exist, if streaming or download traffic of the movie ever spikes up, the score is in a format suitable for the demand this could create.
With the Entertainment Corporation/Broadband-Cable world in flux, these mega-businesses will have to see accurate viewing metrics to make that call.
As it is, an esteemed classic like SPARTACUS is just marginal activity for a media conglomerate like NBC/Universal.
Sad, but that's why we should appreciate Townson's efforts even more.
