Sigerson Holmes took the words (image?) out of my mouth. I am not sure what I have done to find such generosity from you, sir, but I am deeply moved and in your debt.

You will find I will pay you back at the earliest moment I have.

Nice and thanks. Sig's post was funny - I was almost in tears. I popped you a note, and we're all good.

For those people who were talking about SAE's international shipping rates being a bit of an issue on multi-disc sets (particularly for those outside North America, but Canada as well if you include the optional, but seemingly recommended, fee for "registered" shipping to problem countries) this is also now up for pre-order in Intrada's 'coming soon' section:

OMG This is so ordered! DAMN! My bank account is NOT going to like this, but as a poster, WAY ABOVE me posted, this is a MUST HAVE TO HAVE for me. One of my all time favorite scores, and on such a presentation! Thank you once again, FSM! Next to Friday 1-6, the best release of the year, probably will be, at least until Intrada releases "Something Wicked..." by Georges!!!!

Neither is mine, but since the Savina recording was my introduction to Rozsa, I say, ORDERED!

I suppose I'll have to live with the Rhino release. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong at all with that release. I am sure the new release is excellent,But..1.I wont double up on the same score, and 2. The Rino release is a favorite of mine.

At 2000 units you do not have to worry.

Yes. I just ordered through Intrada, and shipping cost to Australia (and Europe, I notice) is $13. I don't know what SAE are asking, but this seems very reasonable to me. Perhaps someone who's ordered (or gone to order) through SAE could contribute a figure here.

SAE's shipping for the Ben-Hur set within the USA is... $8.15.
Intrada's price for the same delivery is... $4.50.
In fact, Intrada's total shipping for THREE BEN-HUR 5CD SETS is $7.50, much less than SAE charge for one.

Very excited about this - so excited I've come out of lurk mode smile

One question - how are people going to store the on-line notes? Does anyone have a neat way of printing them in a size/format that will fit a CD box?

Postage to the United Kingdom is $15 + insurance = $90.95.

It seems a lot, but after my Spartacus Box Set got lost and SAE kindly replaced it without any hassle, I don't mind paying the extra.

The last thing I want, is to order Ben Hur and then find that it doesn't arrive, and then be unable to replace it, taking out insurance should guarantee a replacement should the worse case scenario happen.

First of all, kudos again to Mr. Frank DeWald for the exemplary liner notes for the new "Ben Hur" release. I read them last night with great interest, but they prompt a question:

1. There were a number of "Ben-Hur" cues which did not get recorded. Does the sheet
music for these exist and, if they were all recorded, what would the duration be
in minutes? (approximately) This would be quite an interesting recording project for
Tadlow , Prometheus, or Tribute, coupled with another Rozsa score!

We who love Rozsa anticipate the "Ben-Hur" release with great excitement!! I hope Mr.
DeWald will write the liner notes for the upcoming "Quo Vadis" from Tadlow!

Well said. And mentioning Quo Vadis reminds me how amazed I am that in the last couple of years, the biggest epics have been almost entirely refreshed with prime remastered or re-recorded releases... Spartacus, 55 Days at Peking, El Cid, Fall of the Roman Empire, now Ben-Hur, and soon Quo Vadis. And I almost forgot Lawrence off Arabia too. I doubt anyone five years ago would have expected this amazing list of supercharged 50s and 60s epic releases was coming.

The Ten Commandments is now the prime remaining candidate for similar treatment. I'm hoping this is going to be coming from Counterpoint (assuming that secretive label still exists).

ORDERED!!!!

But I want to know why the total duration of Disc One & Two is shorter than the 2CD set released by Rhino in 1996?

Is it really complete?

I think the running time forthe first two discs is slightly shorter than the Rhino, is because Rhino left in bits and pieces of early versions of scenes as part of the actual score, particularly Ben Hurs trek across the desert andmeeting Christ.

Yes it is complete it even has the fanfare for Messala's entry into Jerusalem, which the Rhino doesn't.
