The other day we got an e mail that had pictures of really ticked off cats who dove, ducked and hid.
Can't download the pictures, but here is the narrative. I swear I bruised my ribs laughing.

How to give a cat a pill ... and a dog, too

How to give a cat a pill:

1. Pick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.
2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.
3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.
4. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm, holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.
5. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.

Very funny Joan!

Proper way is to use two people, one holds cat steady, then other tilts cat's head slightly sideways and with finger & thumb of one hand on either side of cat's head, pinching backwards to open cat's jaw, drop pill from other hand into SIDE of cat's tilted mouth. It'll fall to the back, cat will try to chew it momentarily, and swallow by reflex. Always worked.

I did laugh a lot, William. I sent it to a friend who is a veterinary and owns her own clinic. She did describe your method, but she said with certain cats, the list of tries can go on and on and on....

You can also conceal a pill in a small piece of ham, curled round with a blob of cream cheese inside to hold it all together. Most of our cats will eat that so fast they don't notice the pill.

Yes, I did say "most". One or two of them can eject the pill in an unbelievably quick time, the meat and cheese having disappeared (in their present form) forever.

Maybe I imagined reading it in the "Making of King Kong" but I thought Willis O'Brien was a cat lover, which possibly influenced the cat-like behavior of the T-Rex.

The great Mission:Impossible episode "The Seal" starred cat thief 'Rusty':

A pretty suspenseful old radio show episode involved a cat at the exciting climax. It's both touching and laughable:

Alot of golden age sci-fi authors incorporated cats or cat-like aliens in their fiction. A fav is "Rat and Dragon" by Cordwainer Smith where (not unlike the future cats in Outer Limits episode "Soldier") men and cats are linked telepathically to destroy creatures which threaten starships in hyperspace. The story's subplot shows the story was just an excuse for another cat lover to wear his heart on his sleeve.
