There's been a lot of great posts over the years. Though remembering individual comments would be like remembering what I had for lunch yesterday. Not going to happen! Recalling awesome threads, much easier.

I remember your post when checking out at SAE with a promo-code, only to forget your purchasing should've been at Varese, why ain't it happening. wink

I'll always think fondly of the LLL board 'release' notes for The Poseidon Adventure. It was hysterical and hysterically funny - like, stick it in a particle accelerator to find out if it's really stereo or not.

Anyone who gets their hands dirty with audio mag tape is the reason this place is here.

'Preston Neal Jones' self-given "less life left to live" nickname in the "Why Don't They Drink the Beer in Commercials?" thread.'

Jim, you honor me, but I'm afraid I can't remember my nickname or anything else I may have said on that topic. Can you please refresh me?

***

Here you go, PNJ:

A long time ago, when I was still in school, I was watching a local broadcast of "The Late, Late Show" in what they called "the greater Metropolitan area" in and around Manhattan.

-- Preston (Less-Life-Left-to-Live) Jones

I always thought you were British, Preston. Must be your easy charm and sophisticated wit.

Like that snazzy old nickname, too! wink

***

Thanks, Jim. I'm still very touched that you've included me in your pantheon. I'm also still intrigued, wondering what was going on in my mind that day. I well remember the story/reminiscence about the late night beer ad/TV PSA that I told in the post, but my morose monicker, or why I tacked it on to that particular tale, is anybody's guess. Maybe I should discuss this with my shrink at next week's session.

PS: British, eh? My Irish/Welsh DNA feels very flattered. I must buy a monocle.

I smile whenever I think of that post as well as all the others listed here. The reason you included that nickname is probably because I wrote those very words when I asked why beer ads didn't include older people in their glamourization of those working-class suds, so maybe you were "throwing it back at me."

If this is indeed the answer, then you've saved a few thousand bucks in analysts fees. wink

15. Josh's poorly-timed "Did James Horner hear his Danger Motif as his plane was crashing?"

16. The reply: "Horner's PR people and hangers on might be offended by Josh's post." As if they would wait for this site to load.

17. zippy (remember him?) wondering aloud how FSMers always keep their emotions in check like Vulcans when posting.

18. JSWalsh's Star Wars anti-fanboy diatribe in "The People vs. George Lucas" thread. In fact, I consider it the single greatest post I've ever read here outside of anything Alan Fivehouse related:

"George Lucas keeps saying these are basically children`s movies, and you know who I`ve never heard bitching about these movies? Children, their intended audience. You know who can never STFU about what Lucas does to his own creations? Chronologically-adult males who should have learned long ago that these are entertainments for summer movie nights when they were kids, and maybe occassional revisits over the years, after they have grown up and moved on from childish junkfood diets of escapism and moved on to literature, higher forms of film art, and music, and realistic adult interactions with the world and entertainment products. if my dad ever went on and on because they were colorizing a Flash Gordon short or something, my mom would have had him committed. Nowadays, someone who treats this stuff as the kids`s stuff it is is considered heartless; in the past they`d be considered an ordinary adult of average maturity who has a grip on reality."

19. In the same thread, I also love it that Walsh said I was one of those anti-prequel middle-aged fanboys and another FSMer asked me if that was really true! This place was great before the "clampdown" on humor (cue The Clash).

A certain member who used to speak "broken English" because they were non English speaking. The posts were extremely hard to follow. Then on a dime started to write in "perfect" English.

While I tend to be too nostalgic for some of our older posts and threads, I want to add a more current post.

Chris M's first post from his topic "Reflecting upon....Zulu Dawn" was stunning in its detailed analysis. Big thumbs up from me.
